CRe Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 So I messed with pub settings in ssci dev and this powerball just kept on moving wierdly (Was invisible and kept on moving one inch and looping back) and ended up at the coord 2" TJ made a video. So in a min above the radar the coords began changing.. It went to coords >2, 62, 72, '2, 82, ?2, and all those wierd coords. Then it started moving wierdly again. And it just went gone.. Well after that I tried to replicate it and it was the settings but I thought it was pretty cool. Tj will post the vids in a while.
ThunderJam Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 (edited) Yea this was ridiculous heres one vid, second one isnt upload to youtube well, but ill get it up eventually. First one shows the ball OFF THE MAP and the coords for it cycle randomly but if you pmed *where while on it your coord read J9 which wasnt near where we were:j-oDUFc_IKshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-oDUFc_IKs Second vid shows when the ball moves onto the map, starts jumping like 6 inches at a time, then starts moving and doing weird stuff:(will put vid here later) Cre speculated this might be because he used *sendto on a player while the guy had a ball earlier today. ThunderJam Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 (edited) Was gonna say your gonna wanna look at the youtube verison, then go full screen, but the resizing makes it look awful :/ I typed at the bottom so you could understand what i was showing but now its gonna be hard to follow. Basically this ball was moving on its own. At one point it went off the map (we found it by pressing f5 which specs on balls). Note that there were 10 balls on this map, that is a possible cause. This one ball was off the map, no stars in the background, and the coords above radar read _2. The _ went thru a acsii rotation including symbols such as ^&*. After a bit this ball jumped to the right, then jumped again, and again until it was on the map. Then it jumped while on the map, then started moving smoothly. It would move a significant distance, the jump back to where it started and make the move again. Was the weirdest thing. I tried to get in ship and catch it, but couldnt (tho setts allow for catching). EDIT: THIS STILL IS GOIGN ON IN SSCI SUBSAPCE DEVELOPMENT, the ball seems to be doing a long (about 5 minute) loop over and over. If you are interested in seeing it, pm myself, Cre>, aquarius, l y n x, or aceflyer (we have all seen it and can show you what we are talking about). Edited May 15, 2008 by ThunderJam
»Lynx Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 It followed the Ascii cycle. This can be found here I heard that the Send to command wasn't completely stable, maybe it doesn't kick players in the normal manor which caused the ball to run like this?
Samapico Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 wow... looks fun... maybe the server didn't update the carrier of the ball in its memory, and since he left, the ball coordinates are read from a random spot in memory... which can be weird values... Some pointer thing !@#$%^&*ed up Just a theory
Samapico Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 errrrrrr hold on a sec.... Ball position is 100% handled by the CLIENT. The only info the server gives you is: When was the ball fired, at which velocity, and where. The client then calculates where the ball should be according to that... so... emmm... that's screwed up...
rootbear75 Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 (edited) can u upload the original video file? Edited May 15, 2008 by rootbear75
Bak Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 um... yeah its cause you have 10 balls on the map.... array overflow so some other memory is in the same spot as the higher numbered balls i've seen similar things in hz 4 years ago
CRe Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 I warptoed myself to 1 1 and shot the powerball through the border with the jav. Either way I thought it was pretty cool
