Your argument would have a SMALL shred of validity except the turret gloves didn't come off until the second flag game. The reason you're bitter about it is because your private freq came in trying to mess up the little game we had going and got wiped out by some fast typing on my part. The whole first flag game was clean, a couple of pub freqs having some fun while a bunch of nerds went around looking for flags elsewhere on the map.

The problem aint just in HS, its throughout ss, which should clue you in to the fact that theres not a whole lot HS staff can do about it. If a ship is to serve as a dep, it had to have decent defense (be it lots of energy, or cloak like mg's dep, or other means). If a ship has great defense, it woudl be unfair for it to have great offense too :/ It's not a simple thing to solve, which is why deps remain this way throughout ss for the most part.

 

 

However, becuz this is HS and your buy system provides some flexibility, I think "Gar"s suggestion of making every kill in a lanc worth more money was worth considering.

Double the money lancs get from kills made by teammates. Tada, everyone wants to be lanc. Now nobody will play real ships!

Even with this implemented, there would be plenty of "real ships" out there.

 

not too mention that with summon, and ad, lanc is the most expensive ship to build.

why does summon go up every reset? =(

 

i gave up lancing this reset when i saw you no longer had a good gun that goes twice as far as what they do now i decided not to make one maby i will but prolly not not enough cash flow and it costs upwards of 300k i dont make that much i have a life

What are you trying to say with this? "Lanc is inexpensive"? "Lanc is good if you have craploads of money"?

 

 

A way of increasing the lanc's range would be nice, such as the many-times-mentioned bouncable-bombs, perhaps faster bulletspeed OR bombspeed... something that would allow a small amount of interaction from far back

 

--on a completely different note, why do AM mines have to cost so much :D that made lancing fun for me LAST reset... now I would have to play much more to get back to the point of AM mines... =(

Drop bullet speed. Add several bomb bounces and increase bombspeed to LUDICROUS. Remove pretty much every bomb - just all level one and two bombs and all mine systems, minus Smart Bomb, Heat Reaver, and Cluster Bomb.

It would be nice to have a lanc with a bounce bomb so the player can actually get a kill or 2, also making the bullets last a bit longer would encourage people to lanc more. Edited by nolan123

Here's an idea:

 

Give lancs a special mount called Bombardment Cannon. It recharges lancs a thor at some rate TBD by balancing (let's say every 15 sec), up to an ammo capacity TBD (let's say 1). This gives lancs something to do by lobbing thors to break stalemates, and as support artillery. It also lets them bounty effectively.

 

Since lancs bombspeed is low you have plenty of time to do something about an incoming lanc thor. If a team tries to thorstorm with lancs they'll be very vulnerable to a rush.

 

Maybe you could also give them exclusive access to the brick generator that Sharpflame described in a different thread. That would give them a way of slowing down attackers or flankers when the whole team gets nuked.

I like the way this sounds, and it goes along with the lanc's role as tactical command center of the freq. Maybe we could set up a couple of things for the lanc like the Commander has in the Battlefield series of FPS's.

I like the idea of making the lanc more interesting. Having some sort of impact other than passivity is a plus. The Bombardment Cannon idea sounds good imo. Maybe like a built-in mount that recharges a thor every 20 seconds or so.

 

I liked lancing before the reset because AD allowed items to be recharged- repels, bursts, and energy bricks. Every life I had a set number of tools at my disposal, so I had to use them judiciously, but I got them back after I died without having to go back to the center safe. That meant I could play a little more recklessly if I had all my items and AD and even die once, but then I would have to back off and be careful while AD recharged.

 

It was different from now primarily because of two things: 1) I could change my playing style, meaning I could be more aggressive on occasion, and 2) I could stay in the field indefinitely if I was smart. I don't know what exactly it was, but post-reset, death came so much quicker, so there's no choice but to play it safe, which is part of the "boredom" forced on lancs.

I didn't forget. Actually I think that the blast radius of all bombs is presently too strong and it contributes to the attacker-defender imbalance. I believe you have control over the % or absolute increase per level, and IIRC how much dmg decays with distance.

 

Right now when you get to L4 it's really powerful, and that was one of the underlying reasons why thor spamming was such a problem early on this reset, vs the prior settings, even though there were more thors flying overall in the last reset.

 

Anyway, my post was about giving lancs something to do other than spin.

There are only a handful of ppl who can afford to waste money firing off three thors at a time anyway *cough* unix *cough*.

 

Thors are no wheres near like they were at the beginning of this reset. I say nothing wrong with them.

 

But in the way of making lancs more effective you should decrease summon so I can afford it , I only get to play every couple days and it takes forever at that rate to save up 160k.

This is the same for disturblingly high percentage of the players.

 

I haven't seen aceflier or distort playing in a lanc. Maybe if they would, then we'd have more flaggames than the current one-a-day if someone is drunk enough to lanc.

 

I haven't played at all this reset.

Dr brain, I don't mean to out you or anything, but just last night when you were lancing, didn't after a while you turned on your sysop leetness? And it was a decent basing game, you, like any other human got bored because you were being the back lanc.

 

Give the lanc something to make ppl want to lanc more.

omg that's a great idea! maybe there should be a new catagory called "lanc item" and it would have all these awesome mod stuff that ONLY and ONLY lancs can buy... and maybe even the old cobalt warhead! that SURELY would get me to buy a lanc without a second thought!

For the next big setting overhaul you could consider getting rid of the lanc. Instead of a dep / anchor / mother ship the lanc would just be another ship to fight with.

 

In place of the lanc, all big ships would be attachable. Ofcourse the settings in general would have to modified to balance it out, to avoid having an invincible defending team.
