CRe Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/con...DWHF1&s=dhs Maybe this guy?
»Purge Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 My laptop's specs are 18" widescreen, 100GB HDD, 1GB RAM, 287MB NVidia GeForce Go 6150 video card, and around 5 lbs. It cost about $1000, which was a bargain last year when I bought it. The battery runs for a good 3 hours before depleting using Power Save mode, so the battery isn't too dependable. It is a HP Pavilion dv9410us notebook PC (quite popular among college students, actually). You should definitely buy a smaller screen since you want a good battery life (the 3 hours on mine are mainly due to the high end video demands, so my laptop acts as my school desktop). Since you're a comp sci major I'm guessing you'd want a relatively mobile notebook, so just go with a smaller version of my laptop if you like that setup. Computers are really customizable nowadays, anyway, so you shouldn't have much trouble. Oh, and do not get Vista OS. My laptop randomly freezes because of Vista.
CRe Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Oh, and do not get Vista OS. My laptop randomly freezes because of Vista. Yeh, Vista is a peice of !@#$%^&*.

X`terrania Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 XPS, ultiamte laptop. Down fails are that they are heavy as all !@#$%^&*, but they will do virtual anything you need and/or want. Why is the weight limit 6.5lbs and below anyways
ThunderJam Posted May 3, 2008 Author Report Posted May 3, 2008 cuz ill be carrying it everywhere since most my classes will be comp related after freshman year... id take a lil over 6.5, def not higher than 7 though
Sass Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 the large oversized screens (+15) are making laptops more like walking around with a 1/2 thin-sized pc tower. too much. i'd still go with the latest addage: smaller is bigger when it comes to computers.
ThunderJam Posted May 3, 2008 Author Report Posted May 3, 2008 the mac air is re!@#$%^&*ed. Anyway s!@#$%^&*, I want a 14 inch screen though, so light, but... not like a tiny one

»CypherJF Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Oh, and do not get Vista OS. My laptop randomly freezes because of Vista. <_< Yeh, Vista is a peice of !@#$%^&*. Do you even have Vista? I have it running on a desktop and laptop without any problem. Sure, it might be a little out of tune (ie: too many services/"features" enabled) straight out of the box, but all windows releases are like that. Been playing Half Life 2/CoD4/Continuum without any problem.
»Purge Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Well, both my roommate and my laptops freeze and we both have Vista. The freezing is more common when we use the touch pad and not the wired mouse.
rootbear75 Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Well, both my roommate and my laptops freeze and we both have Vista. The freezing is more common when we use the touch pad and not the wired mouse.on my laptop, explorer just crashes when it feels like it.
»CypherJF Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Strange; like I said no problems here, touch pad or not. :-/
Confess Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Dont buy dell. Not if you want a laptop to last longer then 1 year.
»CypherJF Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Dont buy dell. Not if you want a laptop to last longer then 1 year. Bought the same desktop and laptop from dell last year; both are working like a charm - so far little w/ being a little over a year. I'm hoping Dell turned its act around when Michael Dell became CEO again.
X`terrania Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 lol, your computers are all breaking because u dont care for them and you let limewire porn viruses ravage ur computer. my friend's dell just broke on friday
»Purge Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 I take care of my laptop quite well. It actually started to freeze when it came right out of the box.

Samapico Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 My PC was making weird noises lately... like the fans would go TOP SPEED even if NOTHING was running. But it wasn't crashing at all. So I thought the air vents were probably dusty... So I open it up, and yeah the front panel was all cluttered with dust. I clean that up... Few hours later, computer suddenly shut down while playing Diablo 2... Well, the computer was still powered, but the screen was off, and the fans were going from slow, very slow, very fast, fast, etc. when I tried to turn it back on. Weird stuff. I open it up again, check the connections... power it up... it works. But after that, it crashed 3 times, several hours apart, while the computer was idle... same type of crash, screen is off, no response from anything, but rebooting worked. I think my computer LIKED to be covered in dust lol. It was probably pissed off that I screwed with its environment... Anyway... I got scared that my computer blew up a couple of times :/
candygirl Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 type of crash, screen... the one that tells you it shut down your pc to save your h/d?
