Squad Chat Behavior

  1. 1. How should squad chats behave?

    • Allow only squad members to the squad

    • Allow any user to speak to any squad (regardless of squad) AND allow chat channels to be owned/restricted

Currently, SSC allows any user to speak on a squad chat, for example: ":#WoOgLE:.?buy skill".

Keep as-is, or restrict the "official" squad chat?

If implemented, the ?chat restrictions may offer a feature to only allow the chat owner to specify which squad member's may join.

Restrictions would be nice. Currently SSC only allows staff chats to be restricted, but one may wish to secure non-staff chats. Having a feature to allow this would be immensely helpful.

I agree with that ^^. Let the :#squad: remain open and make ?chat mycoolsquad restricted to squad members. Alternatively, it would be cool to have another chat type for squad members only with a different prefix such as: | (pipe) or \ (backslash)

Isn't \ already used for ASSS staff chat?

That said I agree that :#squad: should remain open and squad ?chat itself should be restricted to squad members. smile.gif

Yeah, you're right about the \ line but having ?chat's restricted by squad means that cross zone chats we all like to use will become deprecated.

Sorry if this is a bit late, but # should definitely be limited to squad-members only. I know there was a little scrap between two squads in the MG league that went on around Christmas, where one team got beaten pretty badly so all of the members decided to spam their opponents' chat.

Maybe a stricter spam restriction for :#Squad: messages would be a good idea while keeping it open for anyone.

Another idea (or maybe I'm just repeating something): how about getting the chat with the name of the squad automatically protected only for squad members of the specific squad?

This would prevent the need of a bunch of extra commands (and code) for owning a specific chat (also prevents problems of a single player owning a bunch of chat names while he doesn't own the squad).

What do you mean, make it so that people have to have the squad name as their squad in order to join the chat? 'Cause most squads tend to have friends or people who are in the squad but have a different ?squad set on their name, so wouldn't they be prevented from joining it? ;/
