i hope these prices drop or at least stay around the same for the entire summer.

it's impossible for any gas consumption techniques, especially since i live in the city.

stop-and-go traffic =/

In NYC the subway system is actually quite nice. Unlike Boston, where the T is rather limited at best.

yeah the tax is a lot of the price but the reason it is risng so fast is the price of oil. The tax does accelerate the increace and has increaced slightly but tax is not the root cause of the general upward trend.

Seriously, re-read what I wrote smile.gif

Public transport isn't too great in London, it isn't too bad either. I can normally get a train within 5 minutes. Unless there are delays.

what? NYC subways aren't "nice" at all, unless you mean environmental-wise. rush hour is unbearable in the summer, considering the subways turn into ovens with all the NY humidity.

then again, it is impossible to drive around the city. blum.gif

Some of the trains in london have air conditioning which is pretty cool in the summer. London underground have started putting air conditioning on their newer carraiges. It's annoying when you get into a packed train in the summer and it's all stuffy and smells sweaty.

NY subway is underground, but not deep at all... which surprised me when I went there. The subway system here in Montreal is at least 2 or 3 stories deep pretty much everywhere. And they are much more confortable than those in NY :S It's like if the trains are going metal-on-metal without any shock absorption and it's noisy as !@#$%^&*. It also gets very hot in the summer/rush hour in the stations and trains here.

Yeah the London underground can be noisy, you get loud screeching noises sometimes, that's why it's always good to have an MP3 player or something. I use noise cancelling ear phones so it owns the screeching noises.

It goes very deep underground in some places. One station in particular has a few hundred steps to get to the bottom / top of the station.

simple fact is gas prices arent that high still for majority of americans. thats why we all still drive SUVs and sports cars.

you even look into HS parking lots around these parts (texas) and more than 1/2 the cars are beat up old (or new, haha) trucks that im sure dont get much more than 15 miles per gallon if that.

I meant 'nice' in terms of convenience. You can pretty much get within easy walking distance of anywhere in Manhattan by using the subway system. This is not so in Boston.

And yeah, attempting to drive around the city is not fun.

It's like if the trains are going metal-on-metal without any shock absorption and it's noisy as !@#$%^&*.

I know, when I've been in NYC I always hated the loud screeching noises when I took the subway (which I did often for convenience). I didn't really have a problem with shock absorption or lack thereof, but the noise was !@#$%^&*.

In Boston the trains are air-conditioned, but the stations aren't, which is usually alright as there are few days when it is so hot that shade doesn't help (in the case of above-ground stations). (The underground stations are usually fine even in summer.) The noise is a lot better than the NYC subway system, but I'd rather have the noise in exchange for added convenience - the Boston subway system is limited as !@#$%^&*.

You have to walk to the train station or a bus stop, not as lazy, plus a taxi costs more.

That, and a taxi provides private, nonstop service, whereas a bus or train will make many intermediate stops in between your starting point and your destination.

You actually have to pay a bit of attention when riding a bus or train, to remember where to get off. A taxi will drive you right up to the door.

Yeah, but it's lazy.. why not make a trip to the bus stop, then maybe get off a bit earlier and go for a good walk.

it's all a joke.

USE A TAXI

that's probably one of the dumbest things ever.

have you even been out of your house to know what NYC is like?

taking the taxi is pretty stupid.

it's chaos on the streets every minute of every day, and you end up paying for a !@#$%^&* load from your taxi sitting in traffic.

Shame our public transportation system is !@#$%^&*ty so we cant depend too much on it eh losa?

are you talking about toronto or NYC? lol.

i'm in NY right now... but toronto's transit is actually pretty good compared to everybody else's.

In NYC the subway system is actually quite nice. Unlike Boston, where the T is rather limited at best.

lol... the NYC subway system is no where near nice. it's dirty, smells like !@#$%^&*, hot as !@#$%^&* during the summer, and is really in bad shape.

this is why i always take the car over the subway.
