Sketter Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) Lets go back to something very important. This game does not have an issue in varieties of zones, it has a population issue. The savior of this game (by what seems to be only by prolonging the death of SS) is to the one/group that brings new players to a 2D 11 years old game. Before you start working on ideas to spread your players thin, you need to come up with something new this game does not have, and then incorporate it successfully in 3-4 zones, then advertise outside of the this community, that is if you wish to increase the capabilities and varieties of zones. These people are off on the right track http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=19928 Pay to play would generate money, but this isn't WOW. A monthly subscriptions won't work, but you can generate money if you really wanted to. You would need to create more zones like HS to accomplish this. A simple cash shop for items where you go to a website and buy things for real money, then using that to pay some to dev. A lot of MMO's fallow this structure. But this isn't corporate, no one can be held accountable, no paper work to submit to anyone, so it would be abused from the second that penny arrives in the account. But let it be known, doable as of today. Speaking of dev. There isn't a lot of devving as there once was. This game is over a decade old, and the ones that are left, have found homes, and not moving. Which means, not many new zones popping up. And that is exactly what we are seeing. However there is one project that i was first pessimistic about, but it is showing progress...sadly at a very slow pace.http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showforum=398I don't think this will save the game for another 10 years, and right now it seems to only be a more 3D version of Continuum, but "Continuum" is not going to get any serious updates, if this is what we have left....might as well poor support into that, work with ASSS, and create new zones that can do different things. But it is moving at a very slow pace, and might end up being too late. Overall, create something new, something big, and get people from the outside, not moving the pop around. You need to build members, not just maintain what you already have. All focus for this game should be to prolong its death. Sketter Edited April 17, 2008 by Sketter
X`terrania Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Sketter, in my opinion the whole "buy items with real cash" idea is bull!@#$%^&*, and that is the main reason why I don't play any of the so-called free RPGs. It's unfair and gives people advantages over the newbies and poorer people.
»Purge Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 all we really need to do is destroy everyone's xbox 360 and Wii to get the population back...
Trained Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 A think a bit more advertising would do us some good. Ive been talking to some MMOG sites that are gonna email me when banner spaces become available to be displayed for the month, anyone that has any ideas on sites I can advertise on let me know .
Audry Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 all we really need to do is destroy everyone's xbox 360 and Wii to get the population back... Dude, i'm ready, i have the baseball bat! LET'S DO IT!!

It's unfair and gives people advantages over the newbies and poorer people. It is the best compromise of both worlds....not that i think it will happen to this game, BUT realistically, without crippling your player base, you still offer free game play, and profit for those willing to buy an item. But finding the balance for both is key. It works very well, and proven, cause it works for a lot of MMO's.I have seen MMO's (like Priston Tale) go from monthly to cash shop. and none of you are not touching my Wii!!! Sketter

JDS Posted April 18, 2008 Author Report Posted April 18, 2008 'cash shop' only works fairly when you can only buy things that change your appearance. When you can buy things that add to your stats, its gives the people who pay money advantage. Period. Bad idea. And will cripple the player base, and then there is the thought of where the money goes, im not paying jack!@#$%^&* if i know a peny goes into someones pocket and not towards the game, and there is no way to know this.
»Lynx Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 Money is out of the picture here. People aren't going to pay for Continuum, if they are, then they're idiots. For people to actually pay for Continuum, all of the hosts would have to agree to it, and a new client would have to be installed, and what ever else, and if a specific zone would require payments, nobody would play it, because it would get ridiculed. I think the only payments are donations for things which actually cost money (hosting etc) - and they're made, by peolpe who can afford to make them, unfortunately, these donations aren't displayed to the wider audience (messages in DSB, TW, EG) and that's a bummer, but I'm sure that's an easier target to reach to than making a new client, server etc...
JDS Posted April 18, 2008 Author Report Posted April 18, 2008 your not really stupid, i just never used that one before... but yea, i play this cause its free and i can do what ever i want on it (but hax) but who wants to hack...
»Lynx Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 JDS = You're not really, hairy, I've just not had the pleasure of using that one yet. Anyway.. We need a realistic advertising plot, the way I figure it, is that 1000's of people use highways/motorways all of the time, and there are often loads of bridges. If we get bed sheets, and paint www.getcontinuum.com on them, hang them off the bridges, we will get loads of interested people. :wave!@#$%^&*:
I\/Ir Beefie Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 There isn't any incentive for someone to "dev" in subspace. I'd like to see you create a zone attraction.. it's easy to say "we need this, we need that" but actually doing it is another story. I play subspace on my free time, for something fun and relaxing to do. The last thing I want to do is sit hours on end developing and writing codes for the game. I think in order to see some real development happen, Subspace no longer should be free. I think a subscription fee of even $5.00 a month would be a good thing. This money can then be split by those doing dev work (Bak-, S!@#$%^&*, ThunderJam, etc..). I suggested this idea to ThunderJam a while ago, and he thought it was a bad idea because a lot of people would quit if they had to pay. It's a toss up, I see pro's and con's on this idea. That's a re!@#$%^&*ed idea. First off, no offense to any of them because I like them all, but none of the devvers you mentioned actually do enough work to justify a real devver's pay. If your logic is that they would step up their production if they were getting paid, that might be true, but a lot of the "devvers" would just be leeches. Given SubSpace's history of corruption, this would never work. Maybe you don't want to sit hours on end devving for SubSpace, but lots of people do. It's true that, with more money, you might get some better, more dedicated devvers in SS - but more than likely, you'll just get people looking for cash. And either way, it's at the cost of your players. I didn't say I'd like to see this done, it's something I've thought of in the past and thought I would post it. I posted it to see what people thought of it, and sure... it has pros and cons. As I get older (now in university), I have very little time to spend playing subspace. The basic idea behind my post was, how it works now.. it'll probably take months - years before we see any updates to subspace... and as we speak Subspace is losing players. People would have more incentive to get something done if there was something in return for them (not to say they would only do it for the money). It's easy to sit back and call an idea "re!@#$%^&*ed", thats why it's called "brainstorming" - some ideas are re!@#$%^&*ed, and maybe this one is. It was just a thought I had, and decided to post it... so theres no need to get defensive at it... lol.

Now anyone want to help me paint bed sheets?
rootbear75 Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 they did that after 9/11with american flags... they were taken down within a day
X`terrania Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 ^ Irrelevant to the topic. Lynx is correct, we cannot and should not make newcomers pay for Continuum, haha.. ;/ srsly
jacob hunter! Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 Just go door to door asking people for money for the red cross foundation That always works.
Samapico Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 We don't want money, we want players You could go around door to door and ask people for money to buy names if you want
rootbear75 Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 better yet, go take some Guitar Hero guitars, and a set of Rock band drums, and go rock out on the corner and panhandle
Samapico Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 How about a Rock Band drum, AND some Rock Band guitars... wouldn't that be simpler?
CRe Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 I'm sure 25% of our pop can play an instrument. Guitar person <--
»Purge Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 ...or we can just focus on advertising for now since that is all we can do apparently. Cre, teach me guitar. I was meaning to learn this summer, but I don't want to spend too much money on lessons.
