It was a not so publicized pact signed by Bush, Prime Minister of Canada, and President of Mexico. It will do the same as the European Union has done for Europe, except ours would be called the Amero. Some people go as far as saying it is the next step towards 1 world currency. Now nothing was set in stone when/if it would ever take effect, or if it would go any further, but that is just the basic jist of it.

Rofl, Polix, you !@#$%^&*.

The NAU is a myth which has been pushed by various anti-immigration candidates and leaders in an attempt to generate additional support for their cause. So far as I know, there is no substance to it.

This is not to say that growing north american integration is not a fact, as both democrats and republicans have heavily pushed initiatives to expand trade.

However, due to things like the post 9/11 "hardening" of the american border (much as the republicans have tried to stall it), actual political union is at least 35 years away, if it ever occurs. If/When it does, it will be mainly to benefit Mexico, as by that time an estimated 35% of americans will be hispanic.

There is substance to it as the pact, or whatever you want to call it, that was signed could very well eventually lead to this.

Bit of news coverage on it recently.

people can be such isolationists. it seems like the at!@#$%^&*ude is secure our borders and !@#$%^&* everyone else.

now I'm not saying we should be spending money abroad when it could be better spent at home, but the well being of mexico and canada do affect our well being (if mexico was as economically strong as the us then illegal immigration would disappear). The pact was hardly dissolution of the united states, lou just wants ratings and is willing to deceive to get them.

Well, there is a real case for it. For instance, Illegal Immigration never seems to get solved, and every Republican will tell you its Democrats catering to minorities, and every Democrat will tell you its Republicans and their big business interests. Maybe a third group is the one stonewalling progress. There are real organizations like the SPP and NACC, with some pretty big names as members, who seem to be acting with that goal in mind.

The major annoyance isn't so much that some leaders are moving towards NAU, but that they are secretly doing it without trying to get public approval. I for one wouldn't be against the idea of annexing Mexico, but would demand a vote first before it actually happens.

The NAU is happening. It is to benefit the 'investing' class for a mul!@#$%^&*ude of reasons. One reason being that mexicans are good workers, and do the jobs americans are not doing.

It's happening. It may not be the best thing to do but it's the only thing to do. Is there a thread about Bush stopping the 2008 elections?

Are you suggesting that boosting Mexico's economy would be a more efficient/effective endeavor than tightening the border security?

As somebody who works with Mexicans, I'd say Aquarius is wrong. Mexicans are borderline lazy. For some reason, the media likes to use 'Hispanics', when I've found that there is a huge difference in motivation between Puerto Ricans and Mexicans.

Puerto Ricans generally work to send their children or themselves to college, or something along those lines. They almost always have a plan for a future on how to get their family out of the !@#$%^&*-job economy. Basically, they are normal people.

Mexicans just drift. They do show up and go home, but pick and choose which rules they want to follow and which work they do. With a Mexican, there is no long term plan, and they generally don't have the motivation to work hard.

My theory is cultural training. Mexico is a country with no universities, few colleges, and little to no means of a working class family to send their children to get educated, nor would there be professional jobs for those children if they did. Their government has never dealt with corruption, nor tried to address the economic issues which keeps all the wealth locked up tight in the elite classes.

Essentially, a Mexican 'peasant' is born a peasant, will work all his life as a peasant, will die as a peasant, and his children will all be peasants too, and worst of all, there is nothing he can do to change any of that. Thus they avoid hard work because where they come from, hard work is not rewarded. I don't blame the Mexican people, as they have correctly adapted to their cultural environment.

That's half the reason I'd say annex Mexico. Historically the US has done a better job managing Mexican territories than Mexico has. Just look and California and Texas, and note that the economy of those territories sucked under Mexican rule.

And the only reason 'Mexicans take jobs no American will do' is because when that statement is true, which it generally isn't, but when it is, it is because the job pays less than minimum wage and it is illegal for an American to do that job. Additionally there is always a McDonald's or Walmart nearby which will pay minimum wage.

There isn't a thread about Bush stopping the elections, but I did hear that John Kerry is using a mind control machine to build a huge army with which to take over the world, and that army has already taken over Wyoming.

Transmission on all frequencies from planet Earth to Aquarius: Bush didn't stop, nor is he ever going to stop, the 2008 elections.

Sorry for being rude about it, but I have to call paranoid statements for what they are.

Conspiracy theory becomes reality. I don't rule anything out.

All your grand ideas about boosting their economy and educating are all niec and dandy, but it won't single handedly take out the need for increased border security.

And even if they did work, your looking at along term plan, in which case we would still have the immigration problem for years until any effectiveness is seen.

How many of you have crossed the mexico-us border in the past few years? I've cross it .... 6-8 times in the past year and a half and its absurd. Everytime i was literall in a nondescript white van full of a dozen ppl, and i think we got checked twice. Otherwise they just ask the driver, "all americans?" "yes." "ok your fine." What a joke... and thats at the actual checkpoints, which are every jillion miles. the rest of it just open expanse of land you can just walk accross

no I agree. We shouldn't abandon border enforcement, but helping the mexican economy is a long term approach we should do in parallel with enhancing border security.

What value is there to helping the Mexican economy? It seems to me that we've paid that price well into the next generation already by shipping jobs left, right, and center to Mexico. Help them more? Should I just give up my left testicle to save a Mexican? Feeding the rich only decreases your social status and sense of worth.

I know most Americans today would not support this thing that Bush did which is already reflected in his sour approval percentage and had most Americans known about it there would have been chaos abroad.

Since Mexico is so important, shouldn't we merge with Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Botswana too? After all, their poverty level is in the drink and could use a few American jobs. Oh wait - it's all about America right? Since helping our gracious neighbor Mexico would surely return the favor.

Crude oil availability is not as much a problem as is the refining of it into usable substance. Mexico has only a slightly higher volume of crude oil but no capacity to refine it. Annexing Mexico will not only piss off veterans, seniors, and most Americans who have a conscious but would present a new crisis for which congress and Bush could again use to screw us all over.
