»D1st0rt Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Do you think we should make a rule that you have to put content in a page when you create it? Most of the stuff I see right now is just empty.
»Blocks Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I don't think it would be a good rule. Not everyone is going to think of all the articles they know something about (to contribute). Seeing a link to an article (even if it's blank) is a cue to write something there if you know it!
Sass Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Agreed. While you're making that rule, maybe you should fill out content for Hyperspace.
»D1st0rt Posted April 1, 2008 Author Report Posted April 1, 2008 I can see the merit for zone placeholders, but 10 of the 20 of the pages in Category:Players are blank and almost all of them were created by somebody else. I'm just saying if you're not going to take the time to at least put SOMETHING in it, don't create the page. Personally, I don't like the idea of new pages just for the sake of page creation. I look at it as a commitment to at least get a page started, ideally to the point where more people more knowledgeable on the subject can just fill in extra info here and there without a whole lot of effort. @Blocks: Wouldn't a "page doesn't yet exist" link be a bigger cue? I think it's misleading to have a link to a page thinking "oh, what's this" and then have it not say anything.@S!@#$%^&*: I didn't create the page if you're trying to demonstrate hypocrisy. It's not a priority for me either way.
rootbear75 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 (edited) but 10 of the 20 of the pages in Category:Players are blank and almost all of them were created by somebody else.sorry... i've been uploading staff lists to the wiki from the various zone websites that i can access.i've only put a few in the [[Category:Players]] because those people arent on there but they are very important.i dont know much about these people, so i put them up hopefully thinking someone could put something up. although, it would be nice to just put [[Category:Players]] in the page, and still have it come up as red in the actual listing. (red links point to not-yet-created pages) Edited April 1, 2008 by rootbear75
rootbear75 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 i can take them down if you would like me to
PoLiX Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 No offense to them, but a couple of the players you added aren't what I would call "Very Important".
rootbear75 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 No offense to them, but a couple of the players you added aren't what I would call "Very Important".a few i added, and i sent them links hoping they would put stuff up... guess they didnt

I think it's misleading to have a link to a page thinking "oh, what's this" and then have it not say anything.Mmm true that. Didn't think that you can [[link]] things without them actually being there. but 10 of the 20 of the pages in Category:Players are blank and almost all of them were created by somebody else.Important to remember here that if we're aiming to be encyclopedic (are we?) then the pages don't really belong to anyone. I think there's some bit in the rules that says "no defacing others' pages" that should be changed, because the pages about players shouldn't "belong" to that player.

EDIT: also blocks, if you [[link]] to a page that does not exist, the link turns red, cuing people that the page does not exist, but should be made. Edited April 2, 2008 by rootbear75

Hakaku Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Back on topic, I took the liberty of creating Category:Stub, so that it will be easier to find articles without any content. Just add {{stub}} when editing the article, or remove it when it actually has some content. And I also nominate the following pages for deletion (if possible): http://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Arnk_Dyliehttp://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Gunnerhttp://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Category:MGCTF_Shipshttp://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Heavy_Scouthttp://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Juggernauthttp://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Light_Scouthttp://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Deployerhttp://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Sniperhttp://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Turret
