Well apparently, there has been problems with Xbox burning rings (scratches) into discs if you use them frequently, but even though they will fix your console, they wont fix your discs.

I'm like wtf, the xbox burned a ring into a rental disc, and microsoft is screwing me over because now im charged the full price for the disc. the problem lies because i cant afford the full cost of it.

Just buff it out. It's not a big !@#$%^&* scratch, it's just a smudge-looking ring around the edge.

it actually was. i put it thru my little repair thingy like 5 times, you can still see the scratch

Does the disc still work?

Disc read errors in 360's are mostly related to the 360's laser, not the disc. If that was your problem, I suggest you get a lens cleaning CD and run it through your system. It doesn't make sense that the place you rented from would charge you for the game if it still works.

So what exactly happened?

You got it and it DID work, then it quit working? Did you report to Gamefly that it doesn't work, or did they contact YOU about it? I'd hope you didn't tattle on yourself.. I mean, you'd have to be a complete idiot, but I had to ask. blum.gif

It could just be your system dude. I've never heard of an Xbox 360 scratching a CD to a point where it doesn't work anymore. I highly doubt they take each returned game and put it into a system to see if it works. It probably won't catch back up with you unless someone else has problems with the same disc, in which they trace it back to you.. but you could claim it worked fine for you and the person currently having problems with it is the person that damaged it.

A fool proof plan. $

EDIT: What game was it?

Haven't had this with my xbox. Although I have heard about it. Maybe you should go to your rental store and say that it didn't work when you got it? That's what one of my friends do when one of his games are !@#$%^&*ed up. He rents them and exchanges them.....not that I want to lead people into that sort of behavior...

lol, we were actually planning on doing that with my friends copy of need for speed carbon. was going to get a clean disc from them, and send back his scratched up one, tell them it was damaged in the mail O.o

Simple. Buy a PS3 and enjoy it. Xbox 360 is just total crap. It scratches discs if you tilt it..

PS3 has no games, and it's only good as a blue ray DVD player

and before the PS3 vs. 360 argument gets heated up yet again
