I'm a dev guy myself as well, however, I do lack some really really good map skills.. has anyone ever seen the C&C zone me and a couple others have put together? If not, you can check it out, it IS online, and I believe it is simply called "Command & Conquer" without any server label. Anyways. What I'm asking, as posted in my news items, is for a map. I cannot seem to make a good map idea in my head, for the life of me. Being an extremely advanced kind of zone/concept, the map determines if the zone fails or strives. Im looking for the best of the best mappers to help me out in this to develop a good map. This can be side to side, but I want to try something a bit different and go top down. Each side needs its "base", which has to be semi-easy to get to, but also fairy challenging making games last a little while, as the objective is to destroy it. Of course, im trying to make this look as much as a "battle" scene as possible so any suggestions and requests for wreckage or more lvz images is always accepted. If you think you might have what it takes, please take the time to check out the zone and see generally how it works. Tileset, lvz's, and everything is already complete, all I need is a general layout. !@#$%^&*, Not even necessarily the proper tiles at this point. Thanks alot for anyone who can help!
Resol Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 I can make you a nice layout. Is this to be CTF/Soccer/Turf or what? I am not very good with tiles, so I would be able to work better after you got those. The zone has an incediable about of lag, are you going to have this fixed?
tcsoccerman Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 i think top and down is not a good idea. it gives disadvantages to the top because if they press right while going down they will actually go left and same with left to right. diagonal maps on the other hand are always nice.

JoWie Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 hehe the zone is hosted on my server atm. However I also use that to download movies, so that explained the lag, I am done downloading now tho. And its a new game type, not CTF/Turf/etc

Lag is only an issue til we get really cracking down and on a proper server later on, when we need it. As for tiles, theres a few - but the map is nearly ALL LVZ, not much tiles at all. Is that a problem? DCME or that java map editor works nicely with this stuff. Heck, even if you can design a good map, I can tile/LVZ it myself. I just cant design worth crap.

That was before I knew I was starting back to work, right now I barley get time to work on things for my own zone. I can still give it a shot, but I need a little more information, Im not on the dev team, just like to lend a hand when I can. I can go ahead and give you a layout for a top down map, it seems you want to go with a CTF game? Will there be a center spawn area, or one for each freq, im guessing two freqs. How many tiles thick do you want the walls to be? Do you have a tileset?
ThunderJam Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 resol im gonna speak for him and partially answer your question: Its not ctf. Its more like destroy enemy stronghold positions. The enemy territory (in the past) was somewhat compartmentalized in the rear for different lil buildings that you had to blow up (they had health). In terms of map structure, somewhat similar to ctf i guess tho. He uses mostly lvz walls so you can probly start with just default tiles, to be filled out later. And he used several tile thick walls as cliff faces before (were the large walls) then some small single tile thick barbed wire and some singleton tile obstacles.

Yavaris Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 What you could do for prolonging a battle is creating one or two secondary bases with light defence and powerplants. The main base would then have heavy defence, which would (partially) shut down when the secondary base is destoyed. You'd then have the choice between a full out assault on the base with heavy losses, or powering down the defence to make your attack easier. And maybe a light defended but hard to get to (canyon or whatever) bacldoor for some covert sneak attack. Just some suggestions to give the map a better CnC feeling.
