Gannon8 Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 (edited) I am using KUbuntu Gusty and WINE .9.57.When I follow the Quick Stars instructions and run Continuum.sh, I get this error message:wine: failed to initialize: /usr/local/lib/wine/ntdll.dll.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryI have tried installing the windows continuum with Wine and I get the same effects as running it on windows with antivirus or some other program "Continuum Doesn't Like."Any advice? Hakaku Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 Read this?http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=204692
Gannon8 Posted March 15, 2008 Author Report Posted March 15, 2008 The second line of code gave me this error:root@********:~# apt-get install build-essential flex bison xlibs-dev x11proto-gl-dev libgl1-mesa-dev fontconfig libfreetype6-dev fontforge checkinstall Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package xlibs-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package xlibs-dev has no installation candidateAlso, I heard this method takes like 4GB of space. Is this true?
Hakaku Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 You'll probably have more luck posting on the Server Help forums, as I know there are a few people who have used WINE but don't visit this forum.
Username01 Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Hi Gannon8!It's been a month so still not sure if your having the same problems.Let me know whether your active and I'll post a solution and same goes for anyone else having problems with Continuum on Linux. Gannon8 out.
Gannon8 Posted April 18, 2008 Author Report Posted April 18, 2008 I am alive, just been busy. Just post the solution like rootbear said.
Guest Guest: Username01 Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 So candid. We'll here's the solution. 1. Delete everything you have done2. Download platform independent version 0.9.38 - http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wine/wine...mp;big_mirror=13. untar package to installation folder4. open this up and save it as cont32.diff http://www.geocities.com/vivieka/cont32.txt5. ensure cont32.diff is in the wine installation directory6. use patch to modify the installation type in command-line cat cont32.diff | patch -p17. the script will return an equivalent to an "ok" response8. check dependencies of the installation with ./configure9. the configure script will return dependent packages needed prior to the installation9a. if as you mentioned before one was in use or has one source directory, install a fresh version of the dependent package then ./configure again to check reliability10. once the ./configure script returns a valid or "ok" response, ./make the installation11. change to su or chroot access and type make install tell me once this is done.Gnome out.
Guest Guest Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 So essentially what you are doing is not using the package from getcontinuum.com for Linux with the .sh extension. This should be deleted and burnt. 1) This will require a fair amount of disk space2) This is proven to have worked on solaris and suse distros Gannon8 out.
»Maverick Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Attaching referenced file cont32.diff for future reference.cont32.diff.txt
phong Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 (edited) Or you could read: http://wiki.minegoboom.com/index.php/Wine http://forums.minegoboom.com//viewtopic.php?t=5639 The diff file needs to be updated with different versions of wine and needs to be built from source so you can apply the patch before compiling. Disk space usage is still minimal on any system with more than 4 gigs. Edited June 8, 2008 by phong Flame removed
»doc flabby Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 (edited) I'm working a on an installer for wine. watch this space. Edited May 30, 2008 by doc flabby
Aceflyer Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 There is also a patched Wine deb that will be going up on the Continuum-wine site shortly.
Guest Guest: Username01 Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Why complicate things with an installer?Delete everything that specifically mentions installing Continuum on Linux. Gannon8 & Phone(Phong) Out "Error Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload this type of file" <- What's the point then? Gannon8, Phone & SSForum out.

Gannon8 Posted June 2, 2008 Author Report Posted June 2, 2008 Thanks for responding. I kind of dumped this thread because no one was posting the last time I looked at it. I will try and do it after I get my graphics driver working.
phong Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 An easy alternative for Ubuntu and Kubuntu (and possibly other linux)http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=20550 So did you just copy kernel32 from a patched version of wine?
