»1587200 Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Due to some future endeavors with the server, I'm thinking of upgrading from the current Celeron 2ghz w/1gb ram to possibly a duo core 2.8 w/2gb ram, or maybe something else a little robust. I'll keep you posted. Quote
Samapico Posted June 24, 2008 Author Report Posted June 24, 2008 As you might have noticed, bots went down for a while; Syrus had to pull the plug on the server due to cost increase. I just started the bots on my own machine; dunno how effective that will be For now it will do though. I'm pretty busy these days, I didn't really have the time to schedule an event or finish that !@#$%^&* pub plugin... bleh Quote
000 Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 I would do somthing but i live in New Zealand, Quote
Incomplete Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 I said that ages ago, probably because MikeTheNose will not authorise it. Quote
Hakaku Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 We had the same problem in Deva; as not many people host bots anymore. As for ASSS, I don't think Sama knows too much about how it works Quote
Incomplete Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Many people who played / staffed in 17th don't know a great deal about ASSS. I know nothing about it Quote
Samapico Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 I don't know much about ASSS, but learning it probably wouldn't be a problem. But the thing is that we are hosted on TW's server, and I doubt Mike would want to move away from it (as I am pretty sure Priitk wouldn't allow ASSS on his machine). But those are mostly !@#$%^&*umptions. Also, all our bots we need are coded, it would be a hassle to convert / find alternatives for them. And with the few ressources I have (i.e. I'm pretty much the only person who still puts some time in the zone once in a while, development-wise), I don't want to get into that kind of trouble. Quote
Delic Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Mike changed his opinion about ASSS? 'cause I remember when I just started as SysOpand he tried persuading me into switching to ASSS. Quote
Samapico Posted July 4, 2008 Author Report Posted July 4, 2008 Really? Honnestly I don't really know, I was just !@#$%^&*uming things, as I said But anyway, I don't see enough advantages to switch to ASSS for the moment Quote
Hakaku Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Don't worry too much about switching to ASSS; just use what works best for you. It's true that it offers a lot more potential, but unless you want to expand beyond what you already need with subgame&bots, there's no sense in being hasty. Quote

»freakmonger Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Powerball is ASSS and its hosted on one of Priitks servers. Not sure if its the SAME server as TW though Quote
»doc flabby Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 (edited) Alternatively if you can convert the bots to linux i can host them Edited July 5, 2008 by doc flabby Quote

deadonarrival Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 I need to find out what my uni's policy on "fair usage" is. If they let me put two or more machines on at once, and leave them on, I'll get a small box set up for some bots. It's a bit of an "if" - but we can try What happened to nurples hosting them anyway? Quote
Samapico Posted September 20, 2008 Author Report Posted September 20, 2008 We just got a new internet setup here at our uni residences... Basically we have a normal ISP, instead of being plugged right through the school (which was really fast, but high packetloss from time to time, and big-!@#$%^&* firewall blocking lots of stuff). So hosting bots for me isn't much of a problem... Only thing is that while I sleep, the bots are offline. That would be somewhere around midnight to 8am EST during the week. But my computer wakes up automatically in the morning, and the bots are also started automatically on startup, so I don't forget to run them anymore Last I heard of Nurples (and that was long ago), he did not have the setup to host such bots anymore. Quote
deadonarrival Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Fair enough. He still hosts my website (well, larry's now - the thieving git's robbed my larrythehamster name AND my website!), I wondered if it's the same server. It can't be that hard to find somewhere to stick an old box attached to somene's ethernet. I'm wondering about asking round some open source projects etc. Quote
Samapico Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 Well, bots have things like sysop passwords, so we want it to be with someone we can trust Quote
