jacob hunter! Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Cable will not go out or have problems during bad weather.
Falcoknight Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Having grown up with cable, and for the past 4 years having satellite, I can say cable owns satellite, hands down. Every time we have a bad snow storm we get spotty television service at best; we lose the signal every 20 minutes.
X`terrania Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 I don't really watch television, but all the channels I like are on basic cable. Now...Shock, there's someone who downs about 20 hours of television in a day .__.
Dav Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 in england satelite wins hands down. The ASSS that are sky make cable so expencive if you want the programs they have a monopoly on and one of the main channels for subscription TV isnt even available because sky trippled their price to virgin media for it so they couldn't afford to provide it.
Cancer+ Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 If you are a HUGE sports fan, you can get NFL Network, Big Ten Network on satellite, cable you have to pay. Satellite, if you are a first timer, you have to put a $200 deposit on it, plus a contract. Plus if you want the same channels as Cable, you are going to be paying more. With Cable, you can usually get a TV/i-net combo that is cheaper than buying satellite and internet from somewhere else. Of course this is in my area, may not be the same in the rest of the world.
all_shall_perish Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 also to be considered: cable tv providers typically offer high speed internet at cheaper prices if you subscribe to their tv service as well
»Lynx Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 I used to be with Sky - and they were terrible. I'd never go with any satellite deal again. Even in a shower I'd get bad reception - in a storm i'd get near to no reception - also I would always have a problem with a long beeping noise - I rang Sky and they said it was an intermittent problem due to me living in the city, and when ever it occurred I would have to wait 20 minutes for it to p!@#$%^&* over. I recently moved over to Virgin Media which uses Cable - they have been much better service wise, however, there aren't as many channels - if I do want the movie channels now I have to fork out a lot more $$ - also, I find that the V+ box has a very very low response time, which is really annoying. I select a channel - and it takes a couple of seconds to change - I never had that problem with Sky. :S However, all of the cons to Virgin Media are nothing compared to the cons which Sky provides. Also, with Virgin Media I can have a 20MBPS connection with near to 20MBPS speeds for a !@#$%^&* of a lot cheaper - they also provide it on Fiber Optic cables, unlike Sky, and the majority of other ISPs who use ADSL2. Virgin Media FTW - The longer it's around the better it will get.
Aileron Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Satellite. I'm having a decent time with Dish Network. If you live in a rural area cable is simply infeasible. I don't know about everybody else, but my service only conks out in storms so severe that its prudent to turn of the electronics anyway. My package comes with high speed internet too, except that it's satellite internet, which is good in terms of volume but not in terms of ping, so no Continuum. Still, in a rural area you simply don't have a choice of cable.

»Lynx Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Nothing outside of the respective trend. I get 800kbps upload at all times, which I don't complain about, however I do agree the TV needs fixing.
ESCANDAL0SA Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 anyone ever try illegally stealing someone else's signal with satellite? lol
»Purge Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 I remember having illegal cable when I was a kid. free PPVs... and more.
2pac Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 i got FTA, free to air dish, got every channels but the thing is i gotta load bin's everyother week, but its worth it
BDwinsAlt Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 i got FTA, free to air dish, got every channels but the thing is i gotta load bin's everyother week, but its worth it My friend had satellite, and I was at his house. There were tornadoes, but we didn't know because the satellite wouldn't get a signal. They did have a radio, though. Cable does best when you need it. It's underground for the most part.
Animate Dreams Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 I had both Cable and Satellite for a while, and I have to say, picture quality on satellite went down a bit during a thunderstorm... but cable just plain went out, like, 100%. Satellite was much more reliable. Not to mention satellite has a "Guide" button. Cable was free and I still never used it... it was that bad.
rootbear75 Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 uh, cable has a guide button... and it only goes out if its !@#$%^&*ty cable thats aboveground are u sure u werent talking about over-the-air cable?
X`terrania Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 I remember having illegal cable when I was a kid. free PPVs... and more. Hahaha, back when we had cable tv we got tired of them !@#$%^&*ing up our billing and crap like that, so we canceled with them - except they forgot to come and disconnect us, so we had a full two years of free television until one of my mother's ex-boyfriends ratted us out and they came and disconnected it.
Animate Dreams Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 uh, cable has a guide button... and it only goes out if its !@#$%^&*ty cable thats aboveground are u sure u werent talking about over-the-air cable? No, it doesn't. Cable is transmitted analog and therefore, by design, can't have a guide button. You're probably talking about what's known as "digital cable", which is like twice as expensive as cable, which is already more expensive than satellite. Digital cable shouldn't be compared.
rootbear75 Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 where do you live? digital cable is just as cheap as satellite...i have no clue which provider you're using
»Lynx Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Yeah, i'm talking about digital cable - which is actually cheaper than Satellite. :S
X`terrania Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 I remember my regular cable had a channel devoted to tv show listings. Channel 12 I think it was.. showed what was on currently, and what was gonna be on.
