Guest Xun Yu Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I've played various zones in the past and... I have to say, I like what has been done with this zone. So I want to give some feed back on the game from what I have seen. I noticed a lot of devs and players do not have the best ... interactions in the zone, but this post that I am writing is only to inform what I have experienced playing, it isn't meant to ciritize, yet that doesn't mean that it will not have critical analysis. Overall: The fact that there are new settings is very fun, I obviously stoped playing HS earlier because I got bored, and I do enjoy the game now. I came back about a week ago to these new settings. When I first came back, there was the same priv freq killing all pop with a super turret. If they weren't in a super turret, they were flagging. Big problem with that is that players don't get any money from this if they are flanking each other, or if they are on the unlucky pub freq which isn't basing. This would be the biggest issue in terms of overall playability of the zone. Lately it's been very good, priv freq realizes they have more fun and make more money with a freq 1 vs freq 0 setup. 1) Ammo/ammo cost: This is a sink-hole, it takes money from those who need it most, as opposed to those who have large amounts. It's difficult to see how each little change can ripple and effect so many things, but this is an important one to see. It causes an imbalance between those who can run around in a rigged super turret and those who really need money (to stand a chance against it with team mates) in order to provide a playable game. 2) Repels: I noticed a major lack in their use... and it is niiicceeee. Finally, the zone is more about aiming and dodging (both in center and base). As for base fights, this has opened up entire stratagies. We now have gun/bomb fights in base instead of repel/burst spamming. Plus you can move around in base too, very nice. 3) Thors: Well you can move around, but no matter where you go you can't dodge these and their splash damage (dodge it, somone else will hit it), which brings us back to annoying basing (because players don't have so many reps, thors are out of control now). These have been uped in price from 30 to 50. Problem is that this didn't nerf them today, was a HUGE thor war going on from both pub freqs. Plus, players with large amounts of money will not be phased, basically this is only nerfing players with less income. These thor wars are also being used due frustration, as opposed to strategy. 4) Lots of thrust?: It seems this go-round, we have a much higher thurst for ships. The problem with this is it defies the physics this zone and every zone are all about (except DBZ and that RPG zone lol), and which have proven to make this game so addictive. Ships are not supposed to instantly move without acceleration, actually nothing should. This will become more of a problem as more players obtain omega's, haha and god forbid flash drives. It's going to become more like that DBZ zone, which I swear I was only in for 2 minutes just to see how gay it was lol i didn't player there.
Guest Xun Yu Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Also, I do have something to whine about as a javelin since I wanted to make a huge BAWWWWINGGG post but this is important. As a jav, my recharge is insanely low, my only option is to buy an omega + tokamak, however that's just it... I now have no options for upgrading, it's pretty much a linear path.
Dr Brain Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Thanks for a well thought out post. Most of it is probably directed toward arnk, as he does the settings now, but I'll answer what I can. I've played for a bit, and never had a problem getting enough money for ammo. I would imagine it would take more of my earnings on the higher end guns, but even then I can't imagine not turning a profit. The original plan for ammo was to make the vet guns take more and therefore cost vets more. While I don't think that's really happening, I certainly don't think the opposite is happening either. I've noticed this too, in my short time playing. I'm sure we'll figure out some way of making them work. I haven't noticed a difference, but I haven't played for long. Freedom is the right to be wrong.
