I tend to think that you individually were somewhat more susceptible than normal to it, some predisposition to aspartame

Anyway speaking of waking up and cafeine and such, I had some of that "5 hour energy" last week, and that stuff works wonders. Its like one shot, as compared to the huge !@#$%^&* energy drink cans or cups of coffee, its not bad for you, and you really don't crash later. Very effective stuff

I personally do not favor caffeine/guarana or anything of that sort at all. To "wake up", I just take my normal share of antioxidants in the morning (tea, orange juice).

the natural way feels much better in the end. blum.gif

Tea has as much caffeine as coffee. It's also just as natural. Ground up beans boiled in water, or ground up leaves boiled in water, it's all the same. Don't try to separate the two....

Anyway, X, the reason the cases are being thrown out is because the only times they're able to show anything wrong with aspartame is when mice are given amounts of aspartame equal to like 5x their body weight daily. Aspartame was one of the first sweeteners to come under fire, but it's actually one of the best, medically. Compared to Splenda, for example, which turns into formaldehyde in your stomach. But obviously, anything unnatural is going to have its effect. I'm no organic-foods-only hippie or anything, but I know I feel better after eating freshly-cooked shrip than eating a frozen box of popcorn shrimp, or after eating an orange than drinking orange kool-aid, or anything else like that. So I've started eating what I consider to be a more "natural" diet. I don't go out of my way to buy the products labeled natural or organic, it's usually BS anyway. "Organic Processed/Pasteurized Cheese" or whatever, companies are able to label something organic just because no pesticides were used, or things like that. It doesn't necessarily mean it's actually natural or organic. But I do try to avoid TV dinners, sodas(soda used to be made with nothing less natural than refined sugar, but that's not true anymore), McDonalds, etc. The worst things I eat now are spaghetti and Chick-Fil-A.

btw rice is awesome

Stop with the 'it's natural' bull!@#$%^&*... Rabbit !@#$%^&* is natural right? Would you eat it because it's natural? There are a lot of poisons that are natural as well. So please stop using 'it's natural' as an argument for anything, it leads nowhere.

I remember back when I was a kid hearing about artificial sweeteners being carcinogenic. !@#$%^&* with artificial sweeteners should have a warning label. Edited by LiDDiS

old fashioned sugar... god !@#$%^&*... to !@#$%^&* with all this health food !@#$%^&*..

just eat right and you'll be fine

yes, i know im not the "prime" or even a good example of this...

but it still holds true...

you all might not believe me, but i did in fact go on the South Beach Diet for a while

yes i actually lost weight (i think about 10 or so pounds just that first week), but the 2 week detox period at the start was too much for me... kept cheating cause i was so used to the crap food at school and the junk at mcd...

i do have a eating disorder... which is why im so fat

i like food too much, and i dont want to give it up

after leaving uni & dorm i lost about 30kg in about 9 months with just eating only half of what i was used to (and no candy/chocolate or anything), and cycling 10km on a hometrainer. The first 2 weeks are annoying with the hungry feeling but afterwards your stomac will shrink and it won't bug you anymore to eat less.

I wonder why there are so many diet books/ppl anyway, just eat less and exercise more :/

I'm !@#$%^&*uming they mean natural as in like.. people thousands of years ago didn't need this manufactured !@#$%^&* to survive, so why should we?

simple. We have come to expect food we can store for a long period of time, food that is hetlhier, tatstes better and so fourth.

100s of years ago your food would rot very fast and the joys of sweet things like coke hadn't even been concieved.

the whole natural argument has some merrit, afterall we are evolved to eat natural products out there. That said a lot of artifitial products are now relied on to keep us alive and well fed in the modern world. Its just a shame that many companies use the cheap alternatives for the sole reason of keeping the cost down without thinking abpout the effects on the customers heath too much.

I think most people, myself included, use "natural" to talk about foods like, apples, and other things that have been proven over thousands of years to promote a healthy life. We have a lot of food in this century that didn't exist last century, and so we honestly don't know the long term effects. That's the appeal of eating "natural" foods - we know from experience that it's healthy, and we don't have to rely on some nutritionist's guesses.

Root, shut the !@#$%^&* up. Chewing bubble gum with aspartame is far worse than drinking/eating anything else with it. It's absorbed through the mucosa of the tongue/mouth/gums, and ends up straight into your brain. !@#$%^&* sugar-free gum, just chew the real stuff.

everyone still seems to be ignoring the fact that small amounts are fine, you need a cirtain amount of the stuff at the same time to induce its toxic effects.

look at this article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame_con...nd_formaldehyde

Approximately 10% of aspartame (by m!@#$%^&*) is broken down into methanol in the small intestine. Most of the methanol is absorbed and quickly converted into formaldehyde. Some experts/scientists believe that the metabolism of aspartame does not damage the body because: (a) the quan!@#$%^&*y of methanol produced is too small to disrupt normal physiological processes; ( :( methanol and formaldehyde are natural by-products of human metabolism and are safely processed by various enzymes; and © there is more methanol in some natural fruit juices and alcoholic beverages than is derived from aspartame ingestion.[16][17]

as ive said, you need a lot before a toxic level is reached

this bit isineresting

Aspartylphenylalanine diketopiperazine

This type of diketopiperazine (DKP) is created in products as aspartame breaks down over time. For example, researchers found that 6 months after aspartame was put into carbonated beverages, 25% of the aspartame had been converted to DKP.[52] Concern among some scientists has been expressed that this form of DKP would undergo a nitrosation process in the stomach producing a type of chemical that could cause brain tumors.[53][54] Other scientists think that the nitrosation of aspartame or the DKP in the stomach would not produce a chemical that would cause brain tumors. In addition, only a minuscule amount of the nitrosated chemical would be produced.[55] There are very few human studies on the effects of this form of DKP. However, a (one-day) exposure study showed that the DKP was tolerated without adverse effects.[56]

the message from all this is moderation. If you guzzle gallons of diet coke every day then you will be getting a lot. That said there is alot of other !@#$%^&* in there so the aspartame wont be your only worry.
