Computer Shut Down

No error messages before but after playing a while computer shuts down, only happens when playing SS. No error messages when I start back up either. Anyone have any ideas?

if ur on a laptop, ur battery's probably dead... try charging it...

Does it shut down as a normal shutdown, like does it show the 'Windows is shutting down' screen? Or it just turns off?

 

You sure it only happens with Continuum? Do you play other games? Even if it's only 2D, Continuum is still more demanding of the video card than, say, ms word . So it might be a video card issue (overheating could do that... I'd lol if continuum makes a video card overheat though )

if thats happening, then ur comp is crap, and the only solution is to buy a new one

Are you sure it only happens when you play Continuum?

How long do you have it on when it shuts down?

Have you had it on without playing Continuum and it didn't shut down?

How long have you had the computer?

Does it run scandisk when it boots back up?

Most likely your processor is overheating. Continuum tends to hog CPU more than most programs.

 

I expect if you turn it on again directly after it shuts down and go straight back to continuum, then it will shut down much faster than before?

yeah, my CPU is often at 30% just for continuum... and it's a 2.8GHz dual core, so there's no way it needs that much CPU...

No not a normal shutdown, Just completely shuts itself off to black...no warning or anything. when I fire back up no error messages other than OUtlook which tells me it didn't shut down correctly. But nothing at all from any other system.

What programs were you running prior to starting Continuum? What programs were on at the same time as Continuum? What Windows version are you running?

I had the same problem with my computer a while back. If it's what I'm thinking, it doesn't just happen when you're playing continuum.

 

For me, I needed a new motherboard..

 

Maybe take it in and get that checked out?

It is an HP Pavillion dv4000, just about 2 years old. It will shut down if I have nothing else up, only SS. I bought a docking station thinking it was a more widespread issue and possibly heat, but that did not help it. I will try, have it shut down go back in and see if it shuts down faster.

Thats probably the problem. I know when my computer overheats it starts freezing up and i get blue screens one after another. Try opening a window or putting a fan on your computer when you use it, or leave it off for a while.
