I'm on a 15 mbps connection, first off, so I don't lag.. Here recently in a zone I play in, my lag went from my normal 60ms to over 500ms getting me specced in the zone I play in. One of the ppl in there said he was doing it intentionally. Now I have two questions, 1 Is that legal and 2 how is he doing it so I can make it stop. It gets real annoying at times when I'm playing and because I kill someone a few times more than they like, they can purposely make me lag and knock me out. Id appreciate some answers. mega_shok.gif

Also, how do I scan or tracroute it back to its origin.. Id like to be able to tell in the future who it is. I'm pretty sure they're not always gonna admit it, but if they can use it in our pub arena they can use it to alter or control events and stuff in any zone.

Rofl, yeah right...

15 mbps connections don't make you IMMUNE to lag spikes.

Could be anything from some kind of program you have that searches for updates, or something on the way to the server that just screws up.

And as far as I know, it is impossible to make someone else lag... unless he really hacked your computer, then you're !@#$%^&*ed... If someone hacked you like that, he wouldn't just make you lag on that game, he'd probably erase all your data, or put in some child porn and call the CIA. So no, noone is making you lag.

For example, I have a normal ping of 10ms... once in a while (few times per hour), I get a lag spike of over 4000ms that lasts for 10 to 30 seconds. I blame the network I'm on (university campus)

Whoever told you they were doing it were either joking, or laughing at you blum.gif

Um, yeah, what Sama said. You might be able to make someone lag on a crap connection by gathering a bunch of people and ping attacking them. blum.gif

But yeah, unless he hacked you, you're just spiking.

Wow.. How old are you guys... Flooding and stuff has been around for forever... Flooding a connection is not hard... And as for the last post where he was laughing at me, I'm sure he was, we're cool... I don't care about that.. I asked if there was a way to trace it.. Lemme put it this way... I was at over 500 ping for a sustained amount of time... It wasn't a "spike"... When he said he turned it off, my ping dropped steadily back to my 60ms.. Leads me to believe he either was doing what he said, or he's a huge psychic, cause he wasn't sitting here... If you care to add more please do, but don't be noob... If you don't have the info I need, find a rock to crawl under an shhhhhhh..... Useless posts aren't helpful... mega_shok.gif

Well apparently you know more about flooding connections than us, so we can't help you more than that.

But to flood someone's connection, I can presume you need to know the guy's IP or something... unless he was a sysop, or that you gave your IP away, he can't know that.

And I get "spikes" of 4000ms during very sustained amount of times (several minutes)... so you don't have much of an argument there. The fact that he said he stopped it is either luck, or he just saw your ping start to drop and said that
