Guest CheckorCall Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Basically I'll be running Continuum and then all of a sudden a blue screen flashes with some text (too quickly for me to read) and my CPU shutsdown. I've tried vacuuming the dust out of my CPU and it helped for a while.. but now it's happening again very often. I can usually stay online for 30 minutes before it shuts down. This only happens when running Cont, nothing else. Any help would be appreciated.
rootbear75 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 usually, the BSoD (Blue Screen of Death) sits up thereits also called a STOP erroras in, something critical that prevented your computer from running happened, and your computer had to restart in order to fix itself usually, the STOP error lists what program caused it, and an error code.if you can manage to get that code written down or find out what program causes it will tell you a lot
Samapico Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Maybe a corrupt file... 1- Run a scandisk (with XP: My Computer -> Right-click on C: drive, properties -> Tools -> ScanDisk...; you'll need to reboot)2- Defrag (Start -> Accessories -> System tools -> Disk Defragmenter)3- Reinstall Continuum Which version of windows are you using?
Shock Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 (edited) Could be a conflicting IRQ issue. C:\Windows\minidump Windows makes a file when when there is a system error. You can download the Microsoft Debugging Tools for Windows and debug the file yourself to see exactly what the error was. Or, you can go to the Event Viewer and see if you can find it under the System or Application tab. Sort the category by source and look for EventSystem and find the one that happened when you got a BSOD. OR, do it the ghetto way. Take out a digital camera or a cell phone and take a picture of the BSOD message and tell us what it says. Edited February 13, 2008 by Shock
Incomplete Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 I had this problem before, for me it happened to me a damaged harddrive and I had to get another one. Back your files up if you can incase it is your HD.
Samapico Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 A full scandisk should reveal those
