»CypherJF Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 A example: Connecticut's attorney general announced a lawsuit against Best Buy, accusing the nation's largest consumer electronics retailer of deceiving customers with in-store computer kiosks and overcharging them. The lawsuit, which will be filed in Hartford Superior Court, accuses Best Buy of denying deals found at the company's Web site, http://www.BestBuy.com. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said store employees charged customers higher prices found on a lookalike internal Web site. I had seen a article where a guy had went searched a price online, went to the store found a higher price, the cashier took him to a computer terminal and the website showed a different price (it is a internal look alike site with the stores prices). The guy took out his iphone and showed the price which had been published on the real internet site. MADISON - Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager announced today that her office has filed a civil action in Dane County Circuit Court against Best Buy Company, Inc., over several alleged violations of Wisconsin consumer protection laws. Among the allegations: misleading representations to Wisconsin customers about rebates, service plans, supplemental magazine subscriptions, exchange policies, restocking fees, gift cards, and reward zone points. “Wisconsin citizens are protected by law from misleading consumer transactions,” Lautenschlager said. “The Wisconsin Department of Justice lawsuit asks the court to restrain Best Buy from continuing to engage in these deceptive practices and to pay civil forfeitures and penalties as provided by law. ... Ohio has also sued Best Buy, Inc. and New Jersey has entered into an out-of-court settlement with the company.http://www.cnbc.com/id/18846852http://www.doj.state.wi.us/news/2005/nr052405_CP.asp Also, BestBuy settled or lost a class action lawsuit in California for failing to pay employee's overtime with accordance with state and federal laws. I know at least one individual who did receive a partial settlement from it a couple of years ago. Just a few examples of the company being investigated by several state's attorney general, knowing individuals who have worked for the company, and many other people's experience with their purchases (granted sometimes personal emotion or full story aren't reflected but wouldn't put it past em).
PoLiX Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 Having worked inside 2 retail companies and 1 shipping company, I can tell you, those tactics aren't anything compared to most the stuff you deal with on a daily basis unknowingly.
»Lynx Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 (edited) I've spotted Currys (An electronics shop in England) using an intranet to display different prices to the internet. Unfortunately, they also usually post a disclaimer on their website stating that prices are liable to change - I tried complaining about a phone I was going to buy with no avail. Edit: Spelling Edited February 9, 2008 by Lynx
