This is something that i was first introduced to about 3 months ago. I didn't believe it at first and just blew it off my shoulder. One night while recording the history channel i accidentally recorded this show instead. That show was tilted Doomsday. Some of you may have seen it.

I'm not gullible but this show really started to make me question, "could this be true?".

Ill summarize it for you so you can make your own opinion..

The main point to this show was the end the world may be 12/21/2012.

Oracles:

This show pointed out a few oracles from way back when. I cant for the life of me remember there names. I do, however, remember that they predicted Kings by name, along with events that indeed came true.

One says that men will be able to share thoughts across seas with a flash of a second and men can stand on opposite side of an ocean and hear each other with speaking stones. Thoughts across seas sound to me like e-mail. Speaking stone, sounds a bit like cell phones. In fact, cell phones have a mineral called "quarts" in them, quarts is a type or rock.

A few other oracles go on to predict names of kings, all being true, and periods of time that have fallen into place, they also predict the end of the world..

but who cares imo...i need cold hard facts!

Hopi:

The Hopi also made a prediction that the world would last for 5 periods. They say that we are have completed everything there is to complete( 'cept for a few things) for us to transition to the 5th world. They (long ago) predicted that there was a black hole (cant remember what exactly they called it) and that this black hole will line up with the sun and the earth on 12/21/2012, causing the earth to quake, fire to rise, water rush, and all sorts of thing..

Mayans:

The Mayans were focused with time. They spent year just trying to figure out dates of past events. They also created a calendar that was so precise it predicts solar eclipse even to this day. But they say that the calendar ends on 12/21/2012. They said it was also prophetic. Said it predicted that white man would discover in "America" in a "Virgin land" on a specific date. On the exact date the Conquistadors found new land -aka- America in a virgin land -aka- Virgina. At that time there was no America, but they knew the name, and the exact date.

The web-bot project.

This was designed for mainly stock exchange. It was build to search the web reading everything and making prediction on future stocks. This is supposedly a bot that can read the subconscious mind of the internet. Well the creator started to look at it a bit more closely and noticed it was also prophetic. It predicted hurricane Catrina, massive earth quakes, and a few other disasters. On June 2001 is said that in 60-90 days an event will change the way we live our lives today (in America). 90 days later, September 11, 2001. it also goes on to predict that this year maybe next there will be a limited nuclear war. Also points out that all this destruction will reach its peak in the winter solstice of 2012. Possibly meaning the end of chaos -aka- end of world.

The Bible:

It is said that in 2000 years Jesus will come back and separate those who are good and take them away, something like that, never read the bible :/

Its been 2000 years. It also states that before he come there will be lots of war, all starting in the Middle East. It has, Iraq.

Science:

The sun the black hole and the earth only come into exact line up about every 2500 years, and we are coming close to the next one. If this happens the axis will flip, and the top part of the earths crust (the mantle) will turn, causing massive earth quakes, volcanic activity, water to go every where and all kinds of storms. The show said this change can take any where from 2 hours to 2 months, they don't know exactly. If it takes less than a day to change there will be massive disaster, and if it take months it will be a slow drawn out painful death. They also say that this has happened before 2500 or so years ago.

I Ching:

This is the chines book- I Ching, meaning book of changes. Its like a big !@#$%^&* book for fortune cookies. You ask it a question, the throw there coins, if mostly head you draw straight line, mostly tails you draw a broken line. You repeat this process 6 time until you get 6 horizontal lines all on top of each other, then you look in the book of changes among the 64 possibilities, and it gives an answer.

The text of the I Ching is a set of predictions represented by a set of 64 abstract line arrangements called hexagrams. Each hexagram is a figure composed of six stacked horizontal lines, where each line is either Yang (an unbroken, or solid line), or Yin (broken, an open line with a gap in the center). With six such lines stacked from bottom to top there are 26 or 64 possible combinations, and thus 64 hexagrams represented.

One guy in like 1998 or soothing like that mapped the 64 possibilities on a time line. He noticed that when he did that, that it remarkably shown a rise when the rise of the Roman empire took place, is shown a fall for world war one and two, but ended 12/21/2012. Some say it predicted the end of the world.

There may be a few things i messed up in there, you all are critics so I'm sure you'll find 'em, but i hope you knew what i meant anyways. So tell me what you think, and how you feel.

Because i know its gonna be funny as !@#$%^&* when ppl start buying all that spam and don't need it.. I hate spam.. But then again what if they do.

p.s. sorry for mess-ups, I'm tired, don't feel like re-reading.

Well, first off, the End of All Things is definite. Nothing lasts forever. Scientifically the whole Universe is going to split apart into a cloud of gasious matter, and between now and then something is going to destroy the Earth along the way. By another arguement, nothing else in life lasts forever, so why should the Earth be any different?

The question of 'when' is a fundimentally religious one. Athiests like to catagorize religions based upon the number of deities worshiped. I for one like to catagorize them by how they deal with questions like this one. There are two answers possible: 'We don't know' and 'Its going to be on...'.

In my mind, every religion is a combination of Holy and Unholy. Holy religions function to guide the participants towards higher morality. They try to encourage people to be more civilized human beings. Unholy ones function as a means to 'discover' the 'inside track' to how the world works. They try unsuccessfully to give a guide to predicting the future, avoiding bad things happening, and cause certain random events to happen. Simply put when asked a question like 'When is the world going to end?', a holy religion will answer 'unkown to humans'. An unholy religion however is expected to name a date.

As for the 'science' statement...things get tricky when science gets involved. When we learn more about the universe and as the end draws closer, there is bound to be some point when human knowledge will know what is going to happen. Religion is the realm of what is believed. However, what science knows is that the magnetic pole is going to shift, the next step of athiests or scientologists believing that said magnetic shift is going to cons!@#$%^&*ute the end of all things is religious.

Multiple theories of the End only proves that Unholy religions existed, which is known anyway.

well...I love spam, just needs to be cooked properly. Anywho, I'm not worried, I myself don't think the world will last another 50-60 years, just because humans have always been self-centered and self-destructive. That wasn't as much a deal in the past, but now we have big !@#$%^&* weapons.

in 2012 the Patriots will go 18-0 again, and lose the Super Bowl again, and because of the massive amount of disappointment introduced into the universe from both 2008 and 2012 so close together, the world will explode.

We've had enough nukes to distroy the planet for 50 odd years now.

The biggest problem we face is overpopulation.

Comdidty Prices for Iron, Gold, Platinum, Food, Oil are at record highs, and the prices will only continue to rise.

Additionally as more and more people need these resources, the resouses themselves are getting harder to find.

In 5 years time both the artic and antartic will be being commercially mined for minarals.

The Earth is rapidly running out of room. If anyone has seen a population curve in biology, we are heading towards the peak before the drop.

To prevent the drop (ie m!@#$%^&* loss of life, due to lack of food/war or resources etc) We need to start exploring and colonizing and mining other planets, in order to ensure our survival.

we've got about 25 years to start doing this...provided nothing happens to resolve the population problem by itself....

Technologically, we have the technology to do it now. whats holding us back at the moment is the risk adverseness that is rampant in society today....

I think China will be the first country to colonise Mars or the Moon.

The one invention that would revelutionalise space travel would be faster than light speed communications, this is arguably more imporatant than faster than light speed travel. Having an 8 minute communications (16 mins for a round trip) lag to mars is really useless for anything realtime...

Imagain trying to play SS with an 16minute ping. Thats how they had to control that mars rover explorer....

Which, by the laws of physics is completely impossible

if you have a large rigid stick going from earth to mars, and you push it an inch on earths end, does it take 8 minutes for it to move on mars' end?

Meh, that's only a 960,000ms ping. Gotta be skilled to be able to handle that. lol.

The 'email = thought across ocean' and 'cell phones = speaking stone' are grasping for connections where none should be. just seems absurd. That prediction of the date is actually impressive, though i think the virgin-virgina think is again people stretching the prediction beyond what it meant...

Uhhh... right..... the first actual AI program.. just by some random joe? who just happened to notice it was AI? sounds like a load of crap to me lol

I'm not aware of the Bible giving a time of 2000 years :/ even so, theres been war in the middle east constantly so that point is kinda moot :/

Is this the thing about the magnetic poles changing? Or is that just something similar. Cuz i know that is a scientific proven phenomenon that is bound to happen again in... i donno something like 100,000 years. If you don't know what i mean, our magnetic north was once upon a time the magnetic south, and over time it slowly will flip back again.

thunderjam, seriously thanks. I needed someone to tell me that. Not even kidding. But as far as the poles goes, its every 2,500 years....so really soon. If that happend they say the mantle will turn, which would suck !@#$%^&*.

"The earth's magnetic field is in constant flux and undergoes a complete reversal in polarity at irregular intervals every several hundred thousand years or so. " - Scientific American ( http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID...CFA83414B7F0000 )

It's VERY randomish though. How do they know this? Well they know the rate at which the continents are moving (can be measured using GPS or radioactive dating in multiple places on the ocean floor) and look at the alignment of metallic rocks formed in rifts on the ocean floor, which form a definitive stripe pattern ( hard to find a real picture of this, here's an outline: http://www.calstatela.edu/faculty/acolvil/...n_magnetism.jpg ). According to the article the flip is slow and takes 2,000-10,000 years from when it starts to finish the 180 flip in magnetic polarity. Fear not people of Earth.

At the rate we are going weapons-wise I would be surprised if we are still around in 1,000 years :/

I dunno, technology sucks at solving real-world problems on its own, unless a person specifically designs something for a particular task. I'd be more afraid of just little robots capable of creating other little robots from like scrap metal or other things we leave lying around. It's not that it'd be smart, it'd just be annoying.

Would be pretty fun though. Just as long as they aren't deadly blum.gif

But anyway I very much doubt the end of the world to be 2012, many people have made predictions in the past with other dates and they have been wrong everytime so why should this one be right?

To answer the question: Yes. Relativity is freaky stuff.

It honestly amazes me how popular science fiction puts so many barriers into people's creativity. Look, we don't need faster-than-light travel to leave the solar system. If humankind were leaving the planet, all we would need is a ship going close to the speed of light. It would take millions of years universe-time, but depending on how fast the ship was going the passengers might experience it in as little as seconds due to relativistic effects.

The tricky part is predicting a planet that would be habitable upon arrival, and I would emphasis that this would be a one-way trip. Also there would be the problem of not crashing into anything when the ship would be moving ridiculously fast, though if future humans have the technology to am!@#$%^&* the amount of energy needed to pull the feat off, I guess quantum computer navigation would be feasible. I don't know how that energy would be transferred to motion in the vacuum of space either.

I guess the key is human beings will have to settle for one planet at a time.

Depends on how rigid the stick is

Why has this topic shifted to talking about my penis?

Funny I thought it would be m!@#$%^&* going to infinity and therefore force required to accelerate going towards infinity as we get closer to the speed of light. Even a modest 90% the speed of light would take too long and wouldn't be feasible to achieve. I think bending space sounds like a good idea though.
