»Purge Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 but most MMOs are like that. it's practically impossible to walk into Gunbound or something with a username like "sock". perhaps Continuum can start user creation on a website and perhaps add some suggestions if a name is already taken (like other MMOs do). but this would obviously require the client to be edited.
PoLiX Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Well, through some php and ajax, it could be done. As someone types in a username, it tries logging in through a php script, and depending on error received, it can decide if name is taken or not, just to give em a hand. 1 of many things we could do.
Incomplete Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Yeah if someone new signed up and it wouldnt let them in because of the name then how are they suppose to know. Should say that name is taken, alternatives are blah blah08 etc...

Ghetto D Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I just downloaded cont. again, and reinstalled after reformatting, and a good number of the default zones were red, I think we also need to think about keeping the default list up to date.
Hakaku Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 but most MMOs are like that. it's practically impossible to walk into Gunbound or something with a username like "sock".Yeah but the difference is, that Continuum says you entered the wrong password, not that the username is already taken. Most games have a registration form, not a direct login, so they'll tell you if the name is available or not. Not only that, SSC's name database is far older than any other game, and if you attempt to log in too many times (aka sign up/in), Continuum tells the user to try again in a few hours.People generally don't read the content of the error, so they get frustrated and don't understand, and eventually they give up on the game (it's happened to a friend of mine when he tried downloading the game to play). Anyhow, Polix/Sama's suggestion would be good.
»Purge Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 yeah, that is true. I guess it can be interpreted as a mistake or a lack of even checking the difference between a wrong password and a taken username.
»doc flabby Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 (edited) I have talked to a friend about making an installer for me. It will generate a random default# username, ranging from default1 to default999999, and seed a random password. The installer i made around a year ago did that...(it had some bug thos however, i nevre got round to fixing) I can probably dig it up if it would be helpful. The original topic was deleted by spyed i think... i did post on tw tho. http://forums.trenchwars.org/showthread.ph...light=installer One of the graphic artists here could create an awesume splash screen, instead of the current crappy looking one. Edited January 30, 2008 by doc flabby
aquarius Posted January 30, 2008 Author Report Posted January 30, 2008 I'll make a splash in particle illusion, that might excite some new players. Can we change the clients splash or just the installer splash?

»Purge Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I personally disable the splash. it gets quite annoying. perhaps change the sound, too.
Samapico Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I don't think the splash can be animated, though

»doc flabby Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 can i use that poster for putting on T-shirts and etc.?One of the conditions of the compe!@#$%^&*ion was you had to grant a free licence to everyone to use the posters, provided they are used to promote subspace.
