Samapico Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 We thought of a cool concept in SSdev chat... Basically, RTS-like game. With possibly an economy, different countries, some countries could be allied, etc.People on your team would be infantry, but your team could buy stuff like tanks, boats (i.e. transport ships to get across the sea), unit upgrades...Nukes could be involved at some point... with intercepting devices. People who get in could be !@#$%^&*igned to the country they actually live in (Any way to automate this using IP lookups?) There could be some base building going... The Red Alert zone showed that this kind of stuff would be doable. Your country could build defensive structures, for example. With ASSS I think it would be possible to push that concept relatively far. The most annoying limit will probably be the 8 ships limit. (Infantry, Tank, Transport, Destroyer or Battleship, Submarine, ...) I just put this together in 30 seconds with DCME using the Image to Map feature to show to the other people involved in the discussion we just had:World.lvl Quote
»Purge Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 did kid A tell you something like this? Quote
kid Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 no i didn't, but your eight ship limit won't slow you down at all. with ASSS you can have per-user shipsettings, and with lvz tricks you can have more ships. Quote
»Purge Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 laggy lvz. the more accurate you try to manipulate the lvz, the more cpu it uses up. well, at least when I tried it in MERV. Quote
aquarius Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 we would need the module to watch every players direction their ship is pointing, and resend lvz images every .3 second i don't see that happening Quote
CRe Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 And we would also need some coders who don't quit after a week. Quote
»Purge Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 the code isn't that large-scale, and it has been done in MERV already, but the main problem would be what Aqua stated. Quote
Samapico Posted January 27, 2008 Author Report Posted January 27, 2008 I don't think we need more than 8 different ships... I started a list of ships that could be used, and didn't even reach 8 Quote
Smong Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 People who get in could be !@#$%^&*igned to the country they actually live in (Any way to automate this using IP lookups?)That's a nice idea, but it would probably work better to assign players to 2 or more fictional sides. Since most servers are in america there's going to be more players from there, also think about the timezones (although some people don't go to sleep when they should). Also, how does the game work? How do you win? Quote
Samapico Posted January 29, 2008 Author Report Posted January 29, 2008 I guess you'd win when you nuked the crap out of other factions. Then a new round would start and every faction would start at 0 again.People in dead factions early in the game could be re-!@#$%^&*igned to the remaining factions... making the game more intense over time. Either that, or some way to make it continuous... dunno Quote
»Purge Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 I had a very similar idea but I don't see it ever happening because of the large amounts of programming that will be needed to successfully complete the zone. Quote
Samapico Posted January 31, 2008 Author Report Posted January 31, 2008 Lots of code indeed... As much work involved as in Hyperspace, probably Quote
Smong Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 I've just noticed this whole idea could end up the same as conquest from the battlefield series. The concept of capturable areas has already been done in "the complex", with what looks like not much success. Why not concentrate on making that zone better? Quote
»Purge Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 actually I was thinking of a concept like that of the MMO Shattered Galaxy. Quote
Resol Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 Wasn't there a zone called like Star Trek and it had a few diifferen't planets based on race (ship type). I was kinda of interesting and that wasn't on ASSS Quote
Doomsy Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 smong the complex never been up due to the map itself change the goal by a world domination and ppl will come play cuz they like to kill other race. and for the map u would take like a big lvz of earth past on the map ? if so it wouldnt make the zone laggy ?
