Several people are currently unable to connect to SSCU 17th Parallel... Some of them can even connect to Trench Wars, but not 17th. Both zones are hosted on the exact same computer. 17th is on port 5900... Apparently this is the port for Virtual Network Computer as well, maybe they are somehow blocked? I don't really know who's in charge of these things... Well I could change 17th's port in server.ini, but the server would probably not like that much blum.gif

And the "people who cannot connect to 17th" include freakmonger's SSCC server... He offered to host my bots, but they can't connect at all. And several people have reported the same problem before...

So I'm asking, would it be possible to change the port 17th Parallel runs on? I'm guessing someone on the council can hook me up with the right person or something... I'd ask MikeTheNose, but he didn't connect for a while.

And for the record, one of the people who can't connect is Maynard, and he can connect to TW, and he just reformated his whole hard drive, and still can't connect... I even put him on VIP.txt.

I really don't know if this is the right place for this... but anyway... I'm sure someone here can at least point me in the right direction blum.gif (or perhaps suggest solutions to the problem)

But don't expect a reply for a while. GS and I have been trying to contact him since mid December and neither of us have heard anything back. Pointman's been trying too I think.

bleh... and he really is 'his' server and noone else has access?

And what would happen if I just change the port... ports on the server are probably all blocked by default?

You can try changing the port. However, I have a suspicion that the SSC firewall doesn't just block IP's but ports as well, so if you're trying to use a port that priit hasn't unblocked specifically for your zone, then you won't have billing access.

Also, ya, he's the only person with remote access to the SSC billing server, and the SSCX/SSCU server.

UDP port 5900 is the default port for VNC, which is a remote working program. ISPs might block this as they want you to use there business package. Also it can be used to control a computer remotely, so its blocked for that reason. Kinda pointless to block it as you can run VNC on any port you want.

!@#$%^&*... getting huge lag... and can't get in 17th.

took me 10 minutes just to get the zone list. And now I can't get in to say anything to GS... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

edit: ok.. the lag "spike" is finally over...

The SSC Firewall only blocks IPs. Zones all connect on the same port, so no worries there. Ports/Slots as they are called, are just scoreids/serverids that are password protected to allow control on who can connect.

But knowing Priit, he has a firewall up on the SSCU/SSCX server. Probably allows all outgoing UDP traffic, and only allows it in on certain ports, IE why you can see 17th, but not connect. If you or mike have ftp, I'd change the port back to 5900, and just go from there for now. 17th didn't use to have issues on 5900 as I think that has been its port forever. But it may be the client priit is using for remote access interfering with it now, dunno.

Your only hope is that Priit gets done with all his investment meetings long enough to check his e-mail and reply to Ghost, or realize something is up.

The problem is we Ghost set the port, I changed the Misc:Port, but didn't change the Billing:ServerId... so apparently that's why it doesn't work. Atleast that's what GS thought it was. But then my Internet went crazy and we lost contact...

17th didn't use to have issues on 5900
True... but it's just some people who have this problem. If it was just a few people, I wouldn't care that much, but since freakmonger's server couldn't get them to connect either, it was a problem for me blum.gif . And I kind of hope that the port is actually the problem... if it's not, well... we're still screwed blum.gif . But how else could someone be able to connect to Trench Wars, but not to 17th Parallel?

Well seeing as 5900 is the issue, or so it sounds, setting it to 5899, still makes 5900 an issue, as the zone would now use 5899 and 5900 rather than 5900 and 5901.

Just my 2 cents.

As far as I know, no.

MikeTheNose probably can access it somehow, though...

This is Trench Wars server we're talking about, Priitk probably limits the access as much as possible, for obvious security reasons

If prittk secures his server in a sensible way, i imagain all ports are closed by default by the firewall. He then opens the ports hes using.

Which means if you change the port, even by 1, you won't be able to get in.... FTP or Prittk is your only hope at this point....

GS did change the available port on the server. I didn't just change that on my own...

Anyway, MTN is now aware of the issue and will contact GS himself...

Yeah, it seems that noone gives a !@#$%^&* that it's dead for weeks... Mike isn't doing anything, GS doesn't answer me... god!@#$%^&*it

and yeah, last thing GS told me is that he'd need to contact Priitk directly. From what I understand, GS hadn't read the whole thing and didn't know 17th was on priitk's server, so he told me he could change the port... But now it's dead.

If I had most of 17th's files, I'd probably start the zone on another host...
