I have an personal issue with lights and my eyes (non-round pupils), and with everything going more and more florescent, it is making it worse. But if stores can use more natural light, and leds (dunno why, but the beams don't effect my eyes) that'd be awesome. Especially the estimated greenhouse gases they'd save, and power, etc.

A eye doctor can tell almost right away when looking at them close up, and if you really watch my irises open and close, you can tell they don't do it all evenly. Bout it really... ------------------------- Back to the subject... They want you to think they're doing this for the environment, but in actuality, they are doing it to save money. It is win win for them. Help enviroment, and save money. Doing anything enviromentally right actually saves money. Although in some cases you have to spend more to save it.

Dav Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Does it matter why? they are reducing emissions and people will copy their model. the reasons may not be as good spirited as they make out but does it matter? what does matter is that we need greener technology. Thanks to the price of energy going up now it is actually financially sensible to save energy which means that big business will start to care, demand goes up, technology improves and becomes cheaper. I cant see a bad thing about all this.

If you read the entire story, they are installing them and wind turbines at some of the wal-marts to help reduce power consumption. And it is funny how everyone still thinks of them as having low wages, I thought the same until my mom moved from Sears to there as an ASM, and got a 24% pay increase, and she's on the low scale, was nearing max for her asm job at Sears. And not a single one of her workers makes less than $10.35/hr, compaired to min wage at sears. My aunt who is a district !@#$%^&*istant looked into my pay, 4 years experience in warehousing, and I could get on at almost 12/hr, 40hrs a week, set schedule, set 2 days off. Granted, I got a better offer coming my way at the moment, but I have put thought into it.

Whatever the minimum wage is these days, $8.00/h?, it's just ignorant and with that wage most people can't make ends meat. Especially in metropolitan areas where the cost of living is more. I guess it also comes down to how much of a penny pincher somebody is too.

There are very few places that pay more then $9.00 unless you are a labor worker such as a contracting business, and the only way to really make money doing that around here is to start your own business. Other then that your stuck with some !@#$%^&* job in the 'city' at Wal-Mart or McDonalds, cost of living is extremely high, they just barley started getting Public Transportation a few years ago, if you live in town your rent is to the point where you couldn't afford a car.Average rent for a 1 bedroom studio, $900.00 - $1,100.00 / month, and thats out of townAverage rent for a 2 bedroom apartment in town... $1,400.00 - $1,800.00 / monthYou don't even wanna know what a whole house and utilities goes for.

Even with the most energy sappy bulbs, your typical supermarket's energy consumption for lighting is 1% of the same supermarket's energy consumption for refrigeration. If Wal-Mart really cared about the environment, they'd stop all of they refrigerators and air-conditioners, so their customers would be hot in the store and buying rotten food. Walmart apparently cares more about their customers than WWAGD. (What Would Al Gore DO?) Oh, and a solar generator the size of a Wal-Mart rooftop wouldn't be big enough to do much...maybe they might power the doors. Solar power is extremely dilute, hence why no-one uses it. Look, that at!@#$%^&*ude that if you don't like something, you should force somebody else to change their way of life, is terrible. The idea behind minimum wage is that because certain people are too stupid to solve the economic problems, they just write a law and force other people to artificially increase their wages. The economic problems are related to globalization. You have some areas with low costs of living and plentiful unskilled labor, and others with high costs of living with rare unskilled labor. Before those two worlds were separated. Now, they are mixing, causing effects like outsourcing, immigration, and lowering wages for unskilled workers. When mixed, both worlds will be the same as each other, though whether everyone ends up in the 1st world or in the 3rd world is undetermined. It is the role of all governments to try to make the coin land on 1st world. Minimum wage doesn't promote that. Minimum wage decreases the value of professional and trade skills, the long term effect being more unskilled labor.

Even though considering the expensive rents in your area, I would assume you could get a bit more than 9... Speaking of, where do you live? I promise not to stalk. The point is, even where I live(Edmonton) the rents are lower than that. And to think, I thought what they were charging here was fcked up. Forget about a car. You can't even afford a car on $20 an hour with the repairs, insurance, gas and endless onslaught of bills.

Doing your own oil change and tune ups ALONE would save you a few hundred a year. Goto Store ~$40 for oil change, Goto Parts Store and get the stuff ~16 (for a 2L engine atleast). It takes like 10-15 mins, and if you use a milk jug to put it in, 2 oil changes, and then just drop it off by a parts store to be disposed of. Tune-Ups the labor is the killer really, but a minor one (Replace Plugs, clean cap, clean rotor, check fuel filter) would cost maybe $10 after tax for the plugs. I think the one I just did (Replaced cap, wires, rotor, and filter) costed $, and took me 30mins.

If you include the cost of the oil itself, you are only paying like $10 for the labor which is better than having to break a sweat. Rofl. No, I'm not a lazy !@#$%^&*, I just prefer convenience and value my time.
