jpcosta Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 !@#$%^&*o Today a player named 'Hi' was trying to scam me and other players into ?give him money to buy his shark. He wanted players to ?give him 10000 and he would ?give his shark. If the conversations are logged a mod can check this out, if they are not, well I hope newcomers see this post first. I know that there was at least one other attempt to another player. PS: obviously I didnt give him anything. Quote
Sharpflame Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Scammers can be scammers, players are supposed to be responsible of their own money, and not expect anything if they ?give it away. Quote
JoWie Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 I will give you a real shark if you send me $100 000 on paypal Quote

Sharpflame, if you have access to the logs at least give it a lookits not their problem that he is scamming peopleif the HS players are stupid enough to give their money like that, then they deserver to get scammed. its as simple as thatif you are buying something from someone, you are taking a risk that they can screw you and take the money and run. Arry Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 Sharpflame, a person who doesn't know that you can't ?give ships isn't stupid, they are uninformed. You're basically saying "It's ok to scam noobs who don't know any better". If you're not going to take action against those who are trying to scam the newbs, then you are basically saying that mods are only there to protect the vets from being annoyed and har!@#$%^&*ed, but who cares about the uninitiated noob who doesn't even know yet that you can't ?give ships. I mean really, when you see a scammer scamming, how hard is it to send a warning? don't be a lazy mod or you might find others knocking on the door to take your place. Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 Mods aren't there to do either. They're there to enforce the rules. Unfortunately, stupidity and exploiting stupidity aren't illegal. Quote
Choose Profile Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 brain, based on your reasoning, why shouldnt cheating and exploiting the zone be legal? all the cheating players will be doing is exploiting a hole that developers were too stupid to fix to begin with. ultimately its your decision whether or not scamming other players is legal, but i really think by allowing it, youre giving scammers the impression that there are other grey boundaries they can push (since no real rules are defined) and verge into actual cheating. scamming other players is the gateway drug into cheating omfg its like marijane kthxbye Quote
rootbear75 Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 heres a thought: DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM PEOPLE UNLESS ITS A MOD (OR YOU TRUST THEM) Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 If I saw them doing it, I'd inform the players that it was a scam (and I've done so on a few occasions), but there's really no way we can stop it. Quote
Arry Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 heres a thought: DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM PEOPLE UNLESS ITS A MOD (OR YOU TRUST THEM) Lol here's what I was thinking as soon as I read "Don't buy anything"http://danwho.net/mp/index.php?id=snl_dontbuystuff Quote
James1293 Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 (edited) if the HS players are stupid enough to give their money like that, then they deserver to get scammed. So all new players deserver to get scammed. Also, i apparently deservest to get scammed.(since no real rules are defined)http://www.sshyperspace.net/zone_rules.htmlMods aren't there to do either. They're there to enforce the rules. Unfortunately, stupidity and exploiting stupidity aren't illegal. I just noticed that "No Scamming." is not a rule PS: Arry, lol i should show that to some people i know XD Edited January 22, 2008 by James1293 Quote
