Wrong................this wasn't the answer ........its a partial answer ...I said how do you decrease lag ?I will give you an example.........someone had a 56 k modem with a 400 ping then suddenly got a 200 ping how did he decrease his lag? Edited by MaxTheHitman

From wiki:

latency is the time taken for a packet of data to be sent from one application, travel to, and be received by another application. This includes transit time over the network, and processing time at the source and the destination computers. Specifically, this is the time for encoding the packet for transmission and transmitting it, the time for that serial data to traverse the network equipment between the nodes, and the time to get the data off the circuit. This is also known as "one-way latency". A minimum bound on latency is determined by the distance between communicating devices and the speed at which the signal propagates in the circuits (typically 70-95% of the speed of light). Actual latency is much higher, due to packet processing in networking equipment, and other traffic.

Basically move out of the stone age and get at least dsl or cable. Also if your on 56k make sure continuum is the only program accessing the internet during game play. Downloads / Uploads and even AIM/ MSN/ ICQ/ (insert other chat protocol here) will slow your 56k speeds down. However continuum is an old game, and 56k use to be adequate to play. Now a days latency settings are stricter than during the earlier years.

I respect all answers but this isn't close...........you explained how it works......but you didn't explain how did the person decrease his ping by 200........ Hint....in continuum game the 56 k user would have a ping 200 so when an admin pings him it would appear 200......but in real sense its actually 400... you get what im saying now ? How do you know his ping is 400 anyway?

If he had 400 in the past, it's very possible he gets 200 when the cir!@#$%^&*stances are there (less traffic, maybe the packets go through different nodes, etc.)

Who are you to say his ping was actually 400?

Iam saying that his 400 ping.....he can decrease to 200.......he can even make it 210 220 230 240 250.......260 regardless of traffic change..................well????how do you know if his ping is actually 400 when in game it shows that its 200. good question and I have your answer for that...The problem with continuum in game is that you wont know its 400 unless there is a traceroute like the one in the continuum menu.Since the traceroute doesn't lie and records the actual ping thats how you would know the actual ping I have tested it and showed correct.....now I will upload both pictures look carefully

its called bandwidth throttling (basically, he is purposely making himself lag in order to 1) get by some shots, and 2) to avoid some shots) and it is illegal in most zones.

if you have proof of it, report it to a moderator, and he could possibly be banned

well rootbear got it right...I was just bringing out a topic so that everyone knows how it works..Its difficult to tell rootbear unless this person is reckless and doesn't know how to control the bandwidth...When the person is reducing the throttle by a few ....he would actually decrease it by a few..notice 450- 150 ping........the 300 difference would create huge lag to the player and would create an advatange like The MAtrix game "slow motion"...with any ping. Another point rootbear is that its partially bandwidth throttling but its more like your decreasing your system speed to make that bandwidth throttle........

Solution??? well all you need is to make a small program traceroute in game to compare with the players ping so you can be sure.......thats the only solution so far.....I know of

Its called memory editing possibly with CE?
wrong thats called hacking your actually hooking the process continuum with CE so watch its a ....Fatal mistake.... frantics.gif ...but in this case your actually decreasing your system speed Edited by MaxTheHitman

why were u asking us if u knew?

we all know about lag throttling.... its not that hard of a concept to understand

i have throttled my lag a couple times (not on purpose mind you), but when i was downloading/uploading torrents. I sometimes increased or decreased the speed at which my torrents could use. which then affected my Ping times while playing
