Drake7707 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Do you drink anything alcoholic ? Why do you or why don't you ? I wonder why at every party there has to be booze, i mean, it's like that people can't enjoy themselves without it. I know the usual reasons are peer pressure and to "fit in", why else would someone love drinking until they p!@#$%^&* out or vomit it all out moments later ? I know those are extreme cases and not everyone who drinks alcohol is like that, far from it, but still those ppl are always there. They are actually luring people to parties by saying "Free beer from that hour to that hour" on their posters, like that's the only thing that counts. I really don't see the pleasure getting drunk as !@#$%^&* and don't remember anything at all from it in the morning. And they actually brag about it later too, like wow they must be the coolest persons in the world kinda way. For those who want to say, why don't you? to me:I don't drink any alcohol because i find it disgusting (yes i've tasted beer before) and hate what it does to people and i tend to avoid parties because i can't stand the smell of beer or drunk people. And it's safe to say that every party is like that, every party that includes alcohol that is, and all of them do :/.
Steigerwald Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 It's not everyones cup of tea to drink some beer. But more power to you for being different and not conforming to traditional behavior party behavior.
Aileron Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 People often argue that there is no way to compaire the level of civilization between one culture and another. I know better. The height of civilization in any culture is directly proportional to the production and availability of alchohol in that culture. Anthropologists have determined the most likely reason behind the hunter gatherer societies forming agriculture and thus sedentary communities is due to the desire to grow crops necessary for alchohol production. Some would even argue that in ancient Sumeria and Egypt it was used as the standard currency. As civilization advanced the amount at quality of alchohol improved, and every time a civilization attempted to ban alchohol, the result was barbarism. As for my drink of choice: Jack Daniel's
Bak Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 drinking with a group of friends is lots of fun. unfortunately, yeah, like you said some people don't realize they turn into !@#$%^&*bags when they drink too much. But a few beers is good for socializing. The problem is typically when people go "out" they go to either a club or a bar... which has 1. drinking 2. socializing and 3. dancing all of which can be fun but after like 3 hours it just gets stupid... parties are great if you know like 50% of the people and there's lots of stuff to do, not just drink and talk. drinking games are always fun. It's funny though how people act when they drunk... there's like !@#$%^&*bags, annoying people (typical girl reaction), more rare are ASSS (at least among my friends), and then there's the person who just passes out or throws up everywhere or both. But the much more typical reaction is to just be more social and easier to talk to (plus having passed out people to make fun of always helps). One thing I noticed is that after people drink a lot the typical conversation gets stupider and stupider. This is probably why it's easier to talk to people: it's a lot easier to talk about something stupid. I'm sure if you went to a party and stayed sober for a few hours you'd notice that it's hard to have a conversation with anyone. It's like everyones IQ drops 20 points and bam, suddenly there's a million dumb things to talk about. Beer's not for everyone though. If you don't like annoying people try marijuana (without drinking). You also find lots interesting of things to talk about, enjoy lots of tasty food, and don't wake up with hangovers not remembering the night before. Plus not being able to die from taking too much is always a plus!
ESCANDAL0SA Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 what's a party without alcohol? lmao. what would you rather do... drink orange juice and play with each other's hair? lol. i don't know what parties you guys go to, but the ones i go to, people drink a lot and don't get trashed cus they can handle their alcohol, and they rarely ever get hangovers =/ my drinks: henny, grey goose, hypnotiq, alize... and it goes on.
Falcoknight Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I don't have any problem with other people drinking, as it's a personal choice and there's nothing I can do about it.But I have four main reasons for not drinking alcohol myself. 1. I can't see any positive outcomes from it. From what I've seen and experienced, there are two outcomes when alcohol is in the mix, either nothing positive or negative will happen at all, or something bad will happen. I have the ability to have fun without the aid of alcohol, so with no actual benefit I don't see any reason to drink it.2. My father got massively drunk and found a loaded gun, and he was so drunk he decided the game Russian Roulette sounded like a great idea, and he blew his brains out.3. Christmas Eve last year, four of my friends at my highschool got !@#$%^&*faced and when driving home hit a car with a young engaged couple. All four of my friends, their dog, and the young couple died in the crash. It was a great Christmas present for the families and friends of those kids.4. Alcohol + driving = the number one reason kids my age in the US die each year. I'd rather not become another death count to prove that fact.
Bak Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 if you don't think there's any annoying drunk people late at parties... you're it!
Audry Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Well, i dont know how old you are, but seriously, you usually learn to know your limits with the times. Everyone does. Yeah sure, alot of people drink stupidly and are complete moron, but for the people around me, we enjoy drinking when we go clubbin, go to the restaurant or just have dinner at home, and no one give a show because they're too drunk, we just have alot of fun and laugh more easely Drinking is a social thing, it just help you to forget for a short time about the day you had and focus on having fun, nothing wrong when you do it smartly. Anyway, i prefer be drinking than smoking cigarettes. Falcoknight... you see if you are smart you call a cab and dont drive when you drink, ffs. Go!@#$%^&* stupid kids.
Shock Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I learned my limit after the first time. I drink at gatherings and/or parties.. It's kinda hard to have a good time if you aren't drinking.
SeVeR Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 WTF ever happened to walking home. Anyway, it's fun getting !@#$%^&*-faced at least once. For one, you'll know what sort of !@#$%^&*-faced drunk you are. You'll get to experience having your vision impaired. You'll experience a different frame of mind, and know whether or not you like it. Have you ever gotten bored from sitting in the pub for 6 hours? Beer makes it better. Sometimes i don't drink beer at all. I don't see it as addictive, but if you don't want to drink it, then don't, and be straight about it. Usually the "peer-pressure" is due to acting awkward about not doing something, just be honest.
»1587200 Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Nothing tastes better than a few cold ones after a hard day's work. I drink because I like the taste, plus it's a nice relaxer. I haven't been drunk in years, but I drink at least 3-4 times a week. Moderation is the key to keeping your sanity when it comes to drinking.
WongKonPow Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I like the occasional drink, but that's very rare. For the most part I just don't feel the need to drink other than taste and I find very few alcoholic drinks tasty.
Drake7707 Posted January 13, 2008 Author Report Posted January 13, 2008 Beer's not for everyone though. If you don't like annoying people try marijuana (without drinking).I like to be in control of my own mind, i can't stand the thought of it, so i avoid any drugs that make you lose that.I don't smoke but if i had to choose i'd prefer smoking over drinking anytime WTF ever happened to walking home. You can get arrested if you're drunk in public (Public intoxication) I'm sure if you went to a party and stayed sober for a few hours you'd notice that it's hard to have a conversation with anyoneI drink at gatherings and/or parties.. It's kinda hard to have a good time if you aren't drinking Now i know to never ever go to a party . Still, i wonder what alcohol-free parties would be like then... i guess most people would find them boring because they're used to the booze :/
darkhosis Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 i have never had a sip of alcohol in my entire life!
Aileron Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Guys, don't bother trying to persuade Falco to take a more moderate approach to alchohol. Yes, those two problems are more related to over-drinking and drinking and driving. Still, he's lost family and friends, so I can understand why he would want to cut it out completely. Falco, I'm sorry for your loss. I wouldn't really know about drinking gue to peer pressure. I usually drink alone. Back to the origional post, yeah I do find the people who brag about drinking. As the internet comic "Foamy the Squirrel" quoted: "People act like they deserve a medal for getting !@#$%^&*faced." What annoyed me the most was people who on Spring Break spent thousands of dollars flying to some exotic location, only to get so drunk upon arrival that they can't leave the hotel room for the rest of the trip. I for one didn't have my parents paying my way through college, and didn't have the kind of money to afford such a vacation, and if I did, I had dozens of better things to spend it on, and even if for some reason I went on vacation anyway, I sure as !@#$%^&* wouldn't waste it in a giant hang-over. And these fools come back bragging about it. The people who go away to gamble knowing they are going to lose all of their money also annoy me. I guess I don't like the people who try legislte drinking and gambling though. I mean, why should Las Vegas get all of our money? The state should let me run a Bar & Casino. That way, during Spring Break half my college buddies get !@#$%^&*faced, the other half lose all their money, and I get to buy a Corvette with all the money I took from them. Everyone would be happy.
Slicer Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I have a bit of expierence with this. In my idea is because people enjoy not acting entirely themselves which is what alcohol does. Also red white goes very well with dinner Binge drinking is more like a sport some times guys can get competative. I remember when a friend and I did 10.5 pints in an hours Oh that was a good night. Seriously it leaves fun memories (depending if your memory hasn't been whiped clean by booze).
Samapico Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Drinking a few beers or a few cups of wine is always fun... Makes me actually able to speak to new people more easily, thus making it fun.But I don't enjoy getting really drunk anymore. It's fun for a couple of times, or once in a while, but other than that I try not getting too drunk (aka I stop when I start to feel kinda bad)
Dav Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I have 2 kinds of drinking really. I drink often because I enjoy drinking good beers (i.e real local ales, imported high quality beers from the continent). These i will often drink when im winding down after i get home from work or when i am eating. There is also the going out drink, then i drink for enjoyment. Like sama said it is easier to engage with new people, makes things a little more enjoyable. Trick is not to go beyond the point of disaster, getting utterly plastered usually results in feeling like crap with a hangover worthy of slaying a dragon the following day.
»Lynx Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I feel I need to drink when I go to clubs and stuff, to loosen up enough to dance and chill out - I also enjoy a cold beer on a hot day... I don't like getting plastered though.. Ugh.. I still often manage it though..
No_Remorse Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 ... You said it, drinking is a sport. Unless you plan to start drinking in the morning, eat a lot of food in the day before you go out drinking. Then you drink like an athlete.
Incomplete Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 JD and coke for meeeee please. Make it a double! Only times I drink are when i'm out with friends. I don't drink while i'm at home by myself playing continuum or whatever. It's good for ya to get totally plastered every now and then, it releases stress.
»Ducky Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 I know some guys that get mad nasty drunk for whatever physical and mental reasons. Definately not themselves. For certain types of people, alchohol really is a total loss in control, but for normal people no. That's the appeal of alchohol and why for the majority of folks, is totally accepted by society. When you get into LSD and DMT, those are losses in control for the most part. Things that not alter your perception, but drastically change it.--------- You can have a party without any booze and people will show if the party has focus. To the normal person, they aren't going to go to a function without focus. "Hey, come over my place and 10 of us will sit around and !@#$%^&*." Isn't focused enough for most people. "Hey, come over my place and have a few drinks." appeals more not because of the alchohol, but because there's something to do in between the boring moments that almost garauntees the trip is worth it.
rootbear75 Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 WTF ever happened to walking home.ur supposed to call a cab I usually drink alone.awww.. thats so sad personally, ive only had a few sips of beer... tried a few different ones and dont like any of them.kind of want to try a Sam Adams, cause people tell me its good. and to "what would a party be w/o drinking?" well for some guys i know, it would be CoD4 and Halo Tournaments, or SSBM tournaments... that or a football game :/girls: i thought u would just sit there and talk about how the cute guy is, or who you just went out with, or comparing breast sizes... (maybe my train of thought is still in high school)
