Aceflyer Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 (edited) Dear Members of the HS Community, I am writing to let you know that I have notified the SSCE Hyperspace zone owner, Dr Brain, that I have resigned as the zone's Webmaster as of January 7, 2008. Building and developing the current sshyperspace.net website (and, more recently, starting development on a planned sshyperspace.net version 2.0 with the help and advice of my wonderful and supportive friends Hi-5, nikegurl, and S!@#$%^&*) has been one of the most fun, enjoyable, and fulfilling experiences I've had in my 'career' in Continuum. However, after serious consideration, I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that the recent rifts between me and the HS administration have made it unfeasible for me to continue serving as the webmaster I think the website, and the zone, deserves. Hence, I believe that it is best for the website to have new management. Much as I would have liked, and preferred, to help continue develop and improve the website as HS continues to grow, as I depart I take satisfaction in having played a part in laying a solid foundation for the website and its future incarnations. As fulfilling as my webmaster position has been for me, my tenure as a member of the HS staff has not been without strain. As a result, I look forward to resuming my original position in the zone, that of a regular player just looking to have fun in Continuum. I will continue to treasure the friendship and camaraderie of my exceptional friends, especially my former colleagues in the zone staff, at Hyperspace. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve the zone as its founding webmaster, and I am sure that whoever is appointed by the zone administration to succeed me as the next webmaster will do an equally good, if not better, job in developing sshyperspace.net. Appreciatively, Aceflyer Webmaster, SSCE Hyperspace, Continuum2007-2008 Edited January 8, 2008 by Aceflyer
Sharpflame Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Sounds like you really took your role seriously. You did a nice job.
FireFox13 Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Aye...enjoy being a "normal"...there's really nothing great about being anything else. Now, you can !@#$%^&* along with the rest of us.
cloudyminded Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 <3 what you have done ace. See you around in Hyperspace flying into vortex or whatever and cobalting us all!
Aceflyer Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 i thought u told me he fired you To make a long story short, the administration took actions that made it untenable for me to attempt to continue to perform my duties effectively as the zone's webmaster.
Dr Brain Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 meaning you got fired? No. Ace wasn't fired.
tcsoccer and neptune Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 i know why, because he gave out too much money from all those quizes. lol
Aceflyer Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 (edited) meaning you got fired? No. Ace wasn't fired. Dr Brain is correct. I wasn't fired from my webmaster position (hence why my original post in this thread was !@#$%^&*led "Resignation from Staff"). However, (before my resignation), the administration did decide, for various reasons, to remove me from the zone staff and terminate my access to the zone staff chat. Since my FTP access to the website's server wasn't revoked, I could still maintain the website, so technically I was still the webmaster. However, my approach for developing the website has always been focused around feedback from and collaboration between all interested members of the zone staff. (I.e. I did the nuts and bolts of the programming behind the website on my own, but much of the design, layout, and even the content were a product of the HS staff collectively.) Especially, development of the planned sshyperspace.net version 2.0 was shaping up to be more of a collaborative effort than ever. The zone staff chat was crucial to this inter-staff interaction and collaboration. Additionally, being on the zone staff helped me stay informed and prepare updates to the site (in particular, the "Breaking News" section on the index page) in advance (in anticipation of updates and changes in the zone), hence making it possible for me to roll out updates on the website almost immediately after updates were released in the zone. Without this source of information, I would have had a hard time trying to provide accurate information about zone changes in a timely fashion on the website. For all these reasons, I felt that it had become effectively impossible for me to continue performing my duties as the webmaster to the degree I felt the HS community deserved. Hence I resigned to clear the way for a new webmaster (hopefully one of the zone's current staff members), who will be better able to continue, and almost certainly improve upon, what I was planning for the website. Choose Profile Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 So much text, yet youre leaving out the most important (and only viable) line. "I got what little power i had revoked, and now i quit"
Aceflyer Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) So much text, yet youre leaving out the most important (and only viable) line. "I got what little power i had revoked, and now i quit" That, er, 'summary line' is rather inaccurate and definitely misleading. Here, if you insist on a summary... 1) I was taken off the zone staff and zone staff chat by the administration. 2) I noticed rather quickly that this put a rather abrupt end to inter-staff collaboration on the website. 3) I realized that it would be much harder for me to stay informed about stuff in a timely manner. 4) I decided it'd be better to allow another staff member - such as Hi-5 - to succeed me, rather than attempt to hang on amidst a sure to decrease job performance.
