rootbear75 Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 I seem to always experience a low FPS upon entering if i enter as a spectator. As soon as i enter a ship, it goes back to normal. anyone know what could cause this? (low = 1-10fps, norm = 40-100fps)
Dav Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 does it get better if you leave it for a while?are you observing any large lvz images?
Incomplete Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 Got page flipping on? tried using other resolutions to see if it still does it?
rootbear75 Posted December 21, 2007 Author Report Posted December 21, 2007 (edited) does it get better if you leave it for a while?are you observing any large lvz images?ill try that later... right now i dont have the time to test itand no Got page flipping on? tried using other resolutions to see if it still does it?resolution does make a difference (640x480 averaged about 400fps) right now i have it set at 1440x900x8and the box that says "avoid page flipping" is uncheckedits not like its a problem PLAYING... its just annoying that when i enter a zone, i have to enter a ship for my fps to shoot up to normal Edited December 21, 2007 by rootbear75
Dav Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 try running fewer colours. Most zones use 8bit anyway so it wont make a huge dofference to how it looks.
rootbear75 Posted December 22, 2007 Author Report Posted December 22, 2007 afaik, it is w/e the default setting is... doesnt the x8 mean its 8bit?
Shock Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 In Options, root. There's a selection under the Graphics tab that says Color Mode. By default, it's 8bit.
Shock Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 Doubt an upgrade in color will fix low FPS.
Dav Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 just a thought. are you running any other software like winamp at the same time?
rootbear75 Posted December 22, 2007 Author Report Posted December 22, 2007 (edited) just a thought. are you running any other software like winamp at the same time?why would that make a difference?and usually only running AIM, Windows Live Messenger, Thunderbird, and Firefox, uTorrent, and Sophos AV (plus all of the startup !@#$%^&*) but none of that should cause low FPS Edited December 22, 2007 by rootbear75
Shock Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 You'd be really surprised. Try closing some !@#$%^&* before you get on.
PoLiX Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 If you are using a newer laptop this would be the cause. Like mine, it is 64mb standard, I don't let it cache up the full 600mb of my ram. I think default is 64 on most, 96 on others, depends on bios, you can check that out. Typically max is 128 or 256 though.
Dav Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 just a thought. are you running any other software like winamp at the same time?why would that make a difference?and usually only running AIM, Windows Live Messenger, Thunderbird, and Firefox, uTorrent, and Sophos AV (plus all of the startup !@#$%^&*) but none of that should cause low FPSwell it can. My winamp and MSN pop-up windows cause my FPS to plummet whilst they are displayed. Anything pulling on GFX power will hinder it so several thins will have a combined effect.
Shock Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 Firefox with it's memory leak problems. I can always tell when that happens because my FPS drastically drops and I take a look at Task Manager and Firefox is using like 150k.
Samapico Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 But still... how would the FPS go back to normal when he enters a ship... wouldn't that take up MORE ressources than spec?
rootbear75 Posted December 23, 2007 Author Report Posted December 23, 2007 ya, especially since when i got BACK to spec, it stays at normal... its just upon entering where the problem lies
Shock Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 Well, when you first enter, it's probably in the process of loading everything.
rootbear75 Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 nope... cause it sits like that till i enter a ship
Shock Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 If you're in spectator mode and you move away from all the action/tiles, does it still do it?
rootbear75 Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) If you're in spectator mode and you move away from all the action/tiles, does it still do it?nope... fyi: it goes to normal about 30 seconds after entering if i move the spectator screen aroundor enter a ship and it goes fine instantlythat or it just sits at 10 til i dont know Edited December 24, 2007 by rootbear75
Shock Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 Well, it's a problem with how many programs you have open, or your video card conflicting with Continuum.
rootbear75 Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 Well, it's a problem with how many programs you have open, or your video card conflicting with Continuum.that doesnt explain why it would go normal after i enter a ship or float around for 30 secs or soand if it was the video card conflicting, it would do it at all resolutions, not just the one i use
Shock Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 Ok.. just a theory. Have you tried turning off sound and entering?
