Is this one of the reasons why you stopped working on asss/hyperspace?

ASSS isn't really GPL (after all, everyone has been distributing it with closed sourced security binaries since it was first released). And hyperspace never has been GPL. The real issue with SS and me is lack of motivation. There aren't any projects in SS that are appealing to me, so I've moved on to other hobbies (e.g. laser tag). I only check this forum because it's part of my daily routine; if that were to ever change I'd effectively disappear from the community, like so many others.

In theory that would have been a valid practice for the copyright holder (grelminar?). The copyright holder is not bound by the GPL (he can of course not revoke gpl licenses he already gave to other people). The copyright holder can even give out licenses to other people that would like to redistribute the application without the GPL.

But you have to indeed look really carefuly to find out it is GPL. If I recall correctly, the license was not even in any of redistributable tarballs that were made.

That only applies if he were the sole copyright holder. Since the very first public release of ASSS it has had modules written by many different people. Now it's even moreso.

Motivation that is by a project basis, dies fast, and you might start a hundred projects and never even finish one. For example as an artist, I draw many pictures but I don't often finish them unless my motivation goes beyond the project. By the way this starting and never finishing is a byproduct of bipolar disorder. You can feel free to research this if you are curious, don't bother me about it. But I'll quote something quick from Google. "- Many people with bipolar disorder find it's easy to start things, but ... start a million things and never finish them,” says Don Malone, M.D." Also keep in mind I may not even acknowledge some disorders, I believe in mind over matter, that many things can be overcome, and definitely drugs aren't the solution. But back on track, a real motivation is humanitarian. If you genuinely want to help people, do something for others, give them a gift, you will always finish your projects. Sadly there are not many people around any more who are not selfish or have that much of a heart. This is a byproduct of the new generation.
