Bridging Problem

Since I really dont feel like s!@#$%^&*ing out $100 to get the Xbox 360 wireless adapter, a friend told me to use wireless on my laptop, and then connect my xbox through my laptop's ethernet.

Well, fine. I did that, i bridged both connections and it works

 

Foward 2 minutes later.

 

Apparently, i get disconnected because my wireless radio turned off, yet i never clicked any button at all.

I unchecked the following button, and it did nothing

OS: Vista

 

 

anyone got any ideas?

or any other solutions that i can get my xbox online without having to s!@#$%^&* out 100 bucks?

where the xbox is makes this impossible.

my dad hasnt strung the house with ethernet so we rely on wireless

i already asked him if i can string a 100 ft cable up the stairs and into the office, and he said no

Are you sure it's really turning off? I'd do some research on this to make sure Microsoft hasn't prevented people from doing this as a marketing strategy to buy their wireless adapters.

no, its my computer because whenever it senses a connection on the ethernet... it for some reason automatically turns off the wireless.

other people i know have done this, but for some reason im 1) not setting up the bridge right, or 2) im not setting my shared internet options right

 

edit: going to try to use ICS...

found this in the Help and Support

Click to open Network Connections.

 

Right-click the connection that you want to share, and then click Properties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

 

Click the Sharing tab, and then select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection check box.

 

Note

The Sharing tab will not be available if you have only one network connection.

In that same screen as your screenshot, look through ever parameter in the advanced tab.

Your laptop is using 2 NIC's, ur wireless and your wired. Your wireless is probably shutting off because it is designed to use the NICs as both incoming connections, not one in and one out, your basically using your laptop as a !@#$%^&*ty repeater, which its not designed to do. If i understand right you have your laptop recieving connection via wireless, then have the laptop hardwired into the XBOX? Thats a pretty awkward scenario. Try using ICS. Also is your just hardwired from your laptop to your xbox, try using a crossover cable instead of normal pinout. I'm not sure how the XBOX is set up but im guessing its set up as a client, as is your laptop, so that would probably require a crossover cable for ICS since theres no hardwired switch/router involved. I dont know !@#$%^&* about the xbox connection settings but if u can tweak it, set its default gateway to the laptops IP, and see if you can slap routing and remote access services on your laptop to make your laptop act as a router. Only do this if nothing else works. Ill look more into this since im at work and dont actually do work. Let me know more details.

like i said above, im going to try ICS...

also, the xbox automatically converts the signal if a crossover is required, so either cable is fine

 

the whole scenario works, EXCEPT for the fact that the wireless card keeps turning off

Are either of your NICs/ the xbox !@#$%^&*igned a static IP address? Could be a conflict?

I'm ready to give up on this one, its the kinda thing i'd need to work on hands on. In your advanced configuration for the wireless NIC there may be a setting called CAM mode (continuous awake mode) or some crap. Just means the NIC wont go to sleep essentially, its where the flow control settings and all that jazz are. Check that.
