Who is going to be in charge of "watching" these chats and what would be the purpose. Anything that would be moderated is just going to be said in a ?chat anyway

Yes, you've thrown a couple words out there but that doesn't justify this idea of yours. You're still being incredibly vague.

 

You need to come up with:

What it is, exactly, this is supposed to accomplish.

How (specifically with details) this is going to accomplish those things.

What could possibly go wrong in the process.

How those problems (again, with details) will be addressed.

 

Once you have those, you should be able to answer "Why bother?"

1) This is supposed to accomplish a closer relationship of the zones, aswell as a faster way to jump to zones without such a big bother, aswell as showing some zones in need of population that are fun to play.

 

2) Zones would use a bot that would automatically send someone to the Lobby with the sendto command when entering arena. Maybe make a yes or no question just incase someone acsadently hit the arena when aiming for something above or below the arena. After entering the arena, accepting going to lobby, and sucsessfully entering lobby, you will have 2, maybe 3 pub arenas in this lobby (zone) and arenas that put yourself back to the zones that are connected to the lobby.

 

How the bots would work IMO would be to actually have a center bot that would sentdo the other bots with a llist of zones that accepted to connect with this lobby. Then the bots just stup what I said, asking acceptance to be *sendto'd to the lobby. IMO i dont think this is a very hard thing to do when making the bots. Maybe just take twcore and edit it so that it works the way my idea does.

 

You can also jump to zones without exiting which everyone knows sometimes could be a small bother. Not a problem.. just a extra comming from this.

 

The 3 chatrooms could be based on filter.. maybe a trash chatroom and maybe a decent chatroom, so we wont have people argueing about people cussing like the sailors they are.

 

The Advertisment thing does not have to cost money, but it still reveals zones that are in need of population that are actually good. Through my years of helping zones in small ways.. (for about 3 years) I really saw some good zones.. but the same problem was population everytime. Maybe this can pull them out of the mud and probably be sucsessful. We dont have to do periodic messages.. because we have a whole map to put these advertisments on.

 

3)we could have spamming problems. We can havepeople annoying or argueing other people.

 

Since .4 like you said fixed stuff like ce and hacking.. I don't see that as much of a problem.

 

If the bot system goes down.. the lobby is not reachable, unless allowed on zone list.. but its big function wont work.

 

We would need people to help work on this (bot wise).

 

Id need a private SSCU zone put up so no one can access on zone list.. unless its better to leave it on zone lists.

 

This can only truely be tested on SSC because of population, comments, and actual zones.

 

4) I see no problem banning people from the lobby who are spam lovers.. maybe create the 2nd chat room a spam center.. i mean just allow it but not like every !@#$%^&* second kindof thing.. or just stick to banning (which i recommend)

 

Banning time i guess would be a day maybe 2 only because its spam. But same person continues and it builds up more each time.

 

Argueing is a possibility.. but we can deal with these guys the same way as the 2 ways to deal with spammers.

 

I know SubSpace Development Team (SSDev) would have some people contribute.. maybe for the bots.

 

To be given a private zone, I'd need to know what to do in order to recieve one for use. *I can make the arena structure in TW's Dev zone because im able to work in there*

 

I'm sure we can be able to make a stable, strong small bot core (wont take months, or years)

 

Like i said I will do anything and everything I can (besides selling my soul, sex, and payments) If this will be given a chance.. I will owe up to what i said i can do only thing I can't do is bots so for dev problems.. thats it.

with all that said, you should realize how unnecessary this whole idea is.

 

I'd actually prefer connecting to zones manually than a bot forwarding me to one. The amount of time it takes to type the actual command to the bot is more than pressing Esc Q, clicking once, and hitting Enter.

 

also, I doubt any active players would volunteer to mod the lounge considering it's just watching text all day... not much excitement there.

 

on a lighter note, you should probably try this idea with other networks, not SSC, as it contains too big of a player base. perhaps you can create a few differently themed zones and only allow 1 on the directory list (as the lounge server) then have the bot send an option to the player entering saying which zone the player would like to connect to. the negative part in this idea would be that the population meter in the directory list for the zone will only reflect on the lounge's zone since that will only be on the directory list.

 

then again, this can be done in a much simpler manner using ASSS. although the *sendto command was newly discovered for subgame, it's nothing ASSS can't do.

i would volunteer for the simple fact that its better than sitting a dead zone watching chat all day... at least theres something going on

It makes me sad that this wont be given even one chance... I sit here doing nothing all day.. and I want to do something for this game. This has potential in it.. and I want to do it. I find this a very interesting thing to try out.

Yeah. That's why I don't think there's much advantage to the "lounge" idea unless all the zones are actually converted into arenas in one single zone. If you could convince half a dozen owners of small zones (10-30 ave. online pop.) to all combine into one zone, then they could probably attract more players simply by the fact that their population would appear as 100 instead of 20.

Ive shifted the chatroom into a lobby. If SSCI Penis can exist as a zone (?find Animate Dreams) then why shouldent I be given a chance. Also... the zone is Private.. cant access on zone list. Edited December 9, 2007 by jabjabjab

that is true. except for the fact that most of the small SSC zones refuse to merge with other zones because they believe that their population will increase in due time and the main zone name will be in argument.

 

by the way, in your old zone PARADIGM, that lounge was ideal considering it was a main spot to advertise other arenas and give graphical updates aside from using news.txt. the other arenas were of different themes and are practically similar to having multiple "zones" merged into one zone.

 

jab, people aren't barring you from doing anything that you want to do. it's just that you'll probably not get enough support from SSC zones to try out your idea, which is why I suggested to proposing your idea to the non-SSC zones. some of them may even be glad - you'll never know until you try.

And its not Merging zone silly.. its a private zone using *sendto... so technically sending you to the zone from the starting zone

well, I still don't see anything productive happening. advertising other zones are good, but is it really necessary to do it in a lobby zone? an advertised site would be more efficient, since it can provide more features for advertising, such as screenshots, zone reviews, message boards (like ssforum), and other interactive features that your idea can do and perhaps surp!@#$%^&*.

LVZ would require a long download, whereas a site would be downloaded relatively quickly... under 5 seconds for most people.

 

a chatroom would again be unnecessary. why make a whole private zone just to chat and lounge? are you imagining something like Habbo Hotel, where a whole community of people socialize through virtual actions? if so, you may actually want to design such a zone rather than have it be a normal zone with nothing in it. then again, it wouldn't attract a population, and having it a fixed zone to enter before entering any of the other zones would just be torture, even with an option to not connect.

 

I'm not going to argue my case any more considering this topic is getting into a one-on-one discussion. hopefully others will post their opinions regarding your idea and maybe it can be to your benefit.

I can think of one use for this. Currently DS has a dev zone and the normal zone, both on ssc just to ease the flow of communications, however, our staff chat is local to staff, so in dev zone we can't chat on it or monitor the staff activity. If i understand this right this would be a workaround for the chat that wouldnt require unrestricting a staff chat and have the possibility of it leaking?

But Since TW Uses a bot to get messages through to its dev zone... I think since were also using bots.. we could add that to the bots being used.

Im waiting to get a Private SSC zone... Thats when the real construction begins on this project..

 

 

This is a extremly benefital thing and thats what im trying to get out. The zones that are good In SSC but have no pop... people arent going to go on zone list.. they are lazy they stick to the main ones... which IMO isnt good because that also shortens the SS Lifetime of a average player... with this we can keep more Continuum pop because it will reveal these zones in a better fashion that the public likes.
