The *Sendto command has alot of potential. I had an idea for this command. If we were to make a private SSC Zone.. and make chat room arenas... and fancy it up and what not, we could jump to a good chat room and talk with people from other zones without having to jump other zones. This also allows local chats to work on the other side zone that is currently connected with it. I know we have ?chat... but hey? Maybe this could be a very fun, Interesting, and unpredicable project. And whats to say.. we could bring chatting to a whole new level. Whatever you want in this so called zone chat idea please post it. Thanks.

P.S. I think this would bring continuum closer as a familiy smile.gif

I believe that command is only available in ASSS, not subgame.

plus, using ?sendto (or whatever that command is in ASSS) will only send people to different arenas, not zones. also, I doubt many people would simply want to "chat" on a game, since that is what forums are for and, as you said, ?chat.

such complex ideas like this usually don't work for Continuum because the players are already used to how the game works, so chatting in a different zone about who knows what isn't really appealing.

I think you just misunderstood how the ?sendto command works. blum.gif

Then why did it work for SSCU Trench Wars and It's Dev zone? Also.. Im sorry i could be getting the command wrong im not sure but it was capable of transfering a arena and access with its people across 2 subgame zones. It is possible. Edited by jabjabjab

I dont see anything missing.. it obviously works with subgame. I just want to try pulling something new off and see what happens. I believe this will connect the zones in some way.. you know? I mean you can go to your arena list on that zone and choose the chatroom.. and you are talking with People from Death Star Battle or Extreme games.. !@#$%^&* even advertising in this chatroom probably will help the other ssc zones in need of pop.

I think he rather meant an arena in which any player could go into and type in public chat and it would be relayed to the same arena across different zones. Without having to join a ?chat. The advantage is you could talk to anyone in any participating zone.

The problem is however, that's it's not possible unless you had a bot in each zone configured to relay player messages back and forth between bots of other zones. In the long run, it's just a waste of bandwidth since it's not the best solution.

Where the *sendto command comes in would be that a bot relays players to a particular zone/arena without having to exit the current zone. I don't think it could ever catch on, except if it were destined for afk'ing players to afk elsewhere. (which could be useful in TW, since I believe Mr. Arrogant kicks afk players out in order to save bandwidth if I'm correct) - But as said, it'll never catch on.

yeah.. ?chat does everything needed... and if a bot moves back and forth... why not just have a bot stay in the target arena and... well... bots would just send him messages... and he'd relay them to.. other bots... That doesn't make sense anyway blum.gif

Not quite what I meant (the sendto was a separate idea, where a single bot would send players to a single zone's arena); there would be a static bot placed in one given arena in each zone. The bot would relay what it reads in public messages, and send it to the next bot in another zone. If you pm'ed the bot directly and had the bot send the message to you, it would make a lot of flooding in private messages to a lot of players (which overtime may kill the bot from too many incoming/outgoing messages)

The difference with ?chat is that you wouldn't have to join it and press that extra button ( ; ) to chat with people.

Is there a serious, worthwhile advantage to this over the ?chat system?

Don't just say "this could be really good, let's see what happens", I want something concrete before I'll think there's anything to it.

Exactly. In other words, it's possible, but not plausible. I was basically trying to expand on Jabjabjab's idea, but pointing out how useless the chatroom idea would be.

The *sendto command has potential, but not that much. The only true thing I could see it useful for is to send players across zones faster by having a bot with sysop powers, where players could message something like !tw and it would send you to SSCU Trench Wars. I would also assume it could force players to different arenas within the same zone using *sendto ,, (which could be useful for zones with small pop for sending new players to the arena where everyone is playing - however, I don't know what would happen if you tried to send them while they're still downloading the main map)

Another option is for sending new players to a tutorial arena.

Moderators could watch the chats... We can make it into a lobby.. and as i said advertisements.. maybe even make them pay for advertisments like webhosting stuff.. so it would show the full spectrum of zones some people dont know about..

What is so worthless about this?

There is several things that could pwn in this idea:

Advertisment

Zones come closer

Lobby for all zones.

etc.

What else do you want to know? Ill Answer every question. smile.gif

actually, this would be nice...

this is the ONLY zone that you can connect to

all other zones can only be accessed by going into this lobby, and either ?go or flying into a specified LVZ which then *sendto's you to that zone...

hmmmm

hmm well the correct command is /*sendto (zone ip),(zone port#),(arena) I have thought of all kinds of evil things I can do with it but not much on the productive side. maybe I am not seeing the big picture yet. as for a chatroom seems you have ?chat already and if you have a group that you want to have a place to hang out there is private freqs or #arenas.

Yeah, but then it would require a modification to the game client, because otherwise it's just too easy to connect wherever you want... And if the client is changed for that, there will be a much more reliable feature to replace *sendto

This could work for servers who want to do it, like servers who host multiple small zones... Could be fun.

However, I still don't see how the "chat" part would be implemented... All I hear is LOLZLETSMAKEAHUGECHATROOM. Doesn't seem practical to me. As soon as you'd 'warp' to one of the zones, you wouldnt be in the lobby anymore...

But it could make a great server lobby, indeed.
