"'Like death, taxes, and a reformed .38 Special playing the state fair circuit, they're something you just can't get away from," Says Richard Dansky of Ubisoft, a long time Clancy writer and designer, whose own escort missions can be found in the Ghost Recon installments Desert Siege and Island Thunder.

"'The player's failure gets predicated on something they can't control,' says Dansky, 'namely, the fact that the escortee has the self-preservation instincts of a cruller at a police precinct.'"

Russ Pitts speaks to the designers of escort missions about why escort missions suck so much !@#$%^&*.

Freespace and Freelancer have some enjoyable escort missions... Most of the times the escorted spaceships have some stuff to defend themselves so it's not too bad

I have never liked escort missions. I played a game once (G-police i think i was called on the PS one) where you have to escort and they just sat there waiting to have the crap blown out of them. They then have the genius idea of sitting right near a sight you have to bomb when the bombs are about as accurate as those american ones that aim to hit a terrorist safe house and end up leveling a school.
