Company: CCA/CADC

Current Occupation: Prison Guard

$20.67/HR

Have you ever gotten to club somebody out? If so, awesome.

Anyway... Machine operator, I'd rather leave out the company name and wage is only relative to where you live. Bigger city=higher cost of living, higher wages.

Company:

Sears

Positions:

Receiving/Merchandise Pick-Up

Offsite Warehouse

Truck Driver

Preventive Maintenance Technician

(Yes, All 4)

Pay:

~10/hr

Looking to get on at Safeboats (http://www.safeboats.com) a local hiring only company, one of those you quit because you retire or DIE companies. Marine Rigger would be my dream job honestly. Wiring, engines, boat systems, etc. That and building boats for the Nigerian, Brazilian, and other undisclosed countries navys would be fun too.

Although if not that, I guess I could go work on the Aircraft Carriers, Destroyers, and Subs... only 5 bases within 20miles to choose from.

Company: McDonalds

Position: Manager

Pay: USD $29,000/yr salary

I do everything.

P.S. Holy crap, Punk, you have a daughter? I didn't know that...

Oh, and taxes are not low in America. Almost 1/3 of my pay goes towards taxes, aprox $9000/yr, and I get a whopping $800 for a refund. Not to mention sales tax in Minnesota is 7%, so $0.07 of every dollar spent goes to the government.

2pac... ive been trying hard for the last 2 months to find anything.

there arent many places around the campus that are hiring, and not having a car doesnt help one bit

i should easily get a job next semester as there is a few strip malls about 5 miles away that i could drive to

and i revise my statement earlier

at 26, being a manager of anything isnt bad. Just where im from, $30K/year doesnt sound like much

Dav: Kinases are involved in phosphorylation, right? I was |this| close to being a biology major, and at one time I knew a lot of what's in the "big book of biology" Alberts' Molecular Biology of the Cell, but since I've replaced that knowledge with lots and lots of maths. :-(

2pac: Man, I wish I could get it to work out to be paid for going to school. And you're right about it being a little bit of luck. In my opinion getting a "good" job is about 25% luck, 50% determination, and 25% skill (unfortunately).

root: Go to your college's career center and see if they have any advice for you.
