This is yet another complaint about a server crash. I sold my weasel and lost 58k... I'm not asking for it back but for you to make money save WAY more often. I put this in trashtalk since most of you peoples probably don't want to read this. I talked to Hi-5 about it and he said to talk to a higher mod because he wasn't capable of checking logs. Well there wasn't a higher mod on at the time and once again, I guess I'm going to have to suffer the loss of money, which is hard for a newb like me to make. If you want to know my income, I make about 200 dollars a minute, which is only 1k every 10 minutes, 6k an hour in center. So you can tell it is very hard for me to make money since I can't seem to ever get on a basing team (they're always full). Edited by neptune171

To avoid losing money from server crashes, the general advice is to log off immediately after major transactions (such as the transaction where you sold your Weasel). This is because logging off forces the server to save your money.

Uhm, there seems to be a problem with your math. $200/minute translates to $1000/(5 minutes), which is $2000/(10 minutes), which translates to $12000 per hour. So you see, your income is a lot higher than you think! blum.gif

The last time NeptuNe171 complained about a money loss due to a server crash, Dr Brain provided the solution (which I reworded and summarized in my previous post, above). Since rc 1223 doesn't seem to believe what I said, I quote Dr Brain's original post below in its entirety.

Rather than taking a screen shot, just leave and reenter the zone. That forces the zone to write all your information to disk.

These types of errors are pretty rare though. On the whole, the database has performed extremely well under difficult conditions.

What I think rc is (correctly) saying is that there are two possible states the database can be in:

  • you have your weasel
  • you have the money from selling your weasel

If it recognizes your weasel as being sold, you will have the money for it. At no point will you have both or neither. Unless astronomically rare freak accidents keep happening to you and nobody else, stop trolling for handouts.

I'm not trolling, and I'm not asking for handouts for no reason. This wasn't asking for my money back, since I lost it and didn't keep my weasel, this is asking to have the zone save money more often.

I don't care what you say because you already don't like me, but whatever I am, I'm not a liar. If I didn't keep either of those, than a mod degranted my money, thats my only explanation so far according to d1 who doesn't care about unfair money loss. The only reason I didn't put the "make the zone save money more often" part on Zone Dev because most likely no one is going to believe me. I don't care as much as my money any more as much as newbs might. For someone who just started Hyperspace, and they palyed for a week, got 100k, then bought something. They found out they didn't like it sold it, then there was a server crash. They're going to have a harder time, so I'm trying to stop that from happening to them.

All I am is annoyed that none of staff will listen to what I'm saying or believe me. It happened last time we had a huge pub day too. The ?jackpot was at 1 million. My team was winning, and the timer was at about 15 seconds. Then the middle of my screen said "Warning: Server Disconnected" and then I came back and the other team got flags, masaru put the jackpot back to normal, and the other team won. How fun.

With things that happen just before a zone crash... it does seem that the zone only backs up money every so often but items and ships are backed up 'at the time of transaction'. Why do I know this? It's happened to me too, in the past, before I started implementing Dr Brain's advice. Since then I haven't lost a cent. smile.gif

i'm the only one who sells ships, buys them again and sells them again lol its a bad habbit

Ask anyone that was on if i was buying stuff for my wzl, and tried it out with a phaser,. didn't like it, sold it. no money. it it makes me more mad because it was a mod that was changing the map, and didn't give any notice before i lost my 100k

i guess its to late for mods to check logs since none were on at the time, cept for cerium who has no powers.

Cerium is a Developer, not a Moderator, hence he doesn't handle these sorts of matters as far as I know.

The fact that you've been the user behind three of the four complains in the past several years makes me think that you're just an idiot and can't count your own money. Lets face it, no one else is having problems on the scale that you are.

From what I've seen; most mods in this zone aren't willing to help anyone thats trying to have fun. I've also seen, that mods don't believe anyone even though it is the truth, and they are careless enough to not help. The only ones that probably would help don't even post in the forums. To be truthful, I should've posted this forum in zone developement, so someone can make it so it saves at 'the time of transaction' instead of every five minutes, where there can obviously be error is ships and money are saved at the same time (according to ed), maybe they should alternate and save every two minutes, instead of five. By the way, who was the other person that lost money after a server crash, I'd like to talk to them if they haven't already left HS. Two out of the three times I lost money, no mods were on at the time, and when there was they weren't a high enough mod (jr mod) to check the logs. You say that I'm one of the four people that have had it happen to, I've seen lots of other people log on after a server crash and complain about losing money themselves. Lets take UpC for example, he sold about 100k worth of items off his spider, and then the server crashed. I guess you mods can just keep not caring.

Technically, mods aren't there to help. They're there to enforce rules.

I said you were one of two people that have lost significant amounts of money. People lose $500 to $1000 all the time when the server dies unexpectedly. You seem to be the only idiot moving huge amounts of money in and out of items all day long.

Because we don't want to kill the database with money updates, we space it out. Nothing will ever realistically cure the small problems. Big ones we can work on, but there are other high priority bugs.
