Dust Voids PS3 Warranty

 

To Sum up that link, basically a dude brought a PS3. After using it for a while, it broke down and when he sent it to Sony for it to be fixed. They say the PS3 was too dusty and voids his warranty.

 

Pretty messed up seeing how PS3 attracts dust like mad and its impossible to completely clean the inside unless you open the PS3 open which automatically voids your warranty

 

Shows how Sony's customer's service basically suck major balls.

Well I guess if alot of people found out about it then they would reconsider buying a PS3, which would therefor hurt theyre sales and help their compe!@#$%^&*ors.

we all know things like that never work well. You will always re!@#$%^&* air flow if you added a filter. Also the filter would clog with dust and require opening the system to clean it.

And if you open the system, you probably will break the void warranty label which pretty much screws yourself up.

 

But then again, I hear alot of stories about Sony's product sometimes doesnt last very long and my headphones I get from sony keeps dying off.

The most ridiculous thing is that the reason tech support just don't dust it off themselves is because of "security issues" ... The techs don't want to "be exposded to potentially harmful amounts of dust" or something like that...

 

I'll make sure to never buy off Sony again, this is just plain re!@#$%^&*ed. And that re!@#$%^&* decision will cost them much more than what it would have cost to repair the PS3, or even give him a new one.

I don't think so... you don't copy someone's horrible customer service policies just because they don't get sued for it. Even if they "get away with it", they will still lose ALOT of sales from the bad publicity. Just read the comments, alot of people said they reconsidered buying a PS3, and were gonna buy a 360 instead.

And from what I heard, Nintendo is much more customer-friendly, and Microsoft extended the 360's warranty because of the 'red ring of death' issue, which is what I call good customer service.

this is why i said if they get away with it. Thankfully the media has picked this one up and consumers are getting irritated by it. This will make sony sort themselves out and makes sure no one else pulls the same stunt.

Dont think Sony has done anything concerning this matter which is really re!@#$%^&*ed seeing how Microsoft did something when the Red Circle of Death happened and Nintendo has much better customer service than Sony.

i once got a replacement DS because the left trigger was broken

well the serial number sticker had another one on it, and the new sticker fell off, so when the right trigger button started breaking, it was technically out of warranty (because the old sticker was on it) but they replaced it for free as a "one time thing"

I even told my friend that they would replace his DS cause of the dead pixel he has...

As much as I love the Xbox 360, I still think it's customer service is a bit !@#$%^&*ty. Kudos for extending the warranty to 3 years but what happens to the people who have paid for the extended warranty?

Original manufacturer's warranty + extended warranty

 

if the original warranty is extended to 3 years, than the full warranty is 3 years + extended

Theres new pics to the PS3 that the dude sent to Sony. Apparently after that guy started posting on the internet, Sony decided to release pictures of his PS3 to him and other medias who wishes to see it.

IMO, that dam PS3 looks pretty dirty and !@#$%^&* but I dont think it will harm the technician that would repair it.

A Sony CSR admitted to reader Ive that dust should not void a Playstation 3's warranty. Transcript and audio, after the jump.

 

Ive: I'm calling just to pretty much clarify the PS3's warranty, if there's any clause in the warranty that makes it so that if the PS3 is too dusty that the warranty is void.

 

CSR: No.

 

Ive: No?

 

CSR: No. The only way that it, um, voided is if it was neglected, um, abused, dropped or anything like, modificated like if you opened it up, modification, if you didn't have your receipt, um, any power failures like mother nature or anything like that then that actually does void the warranty. Other than that any defective PS3s or anything like that is still, um, still under the warranty.

 

Ive spoke to several CSRs, each of whom took a similar position until they read the account notes. Apparently, a tech determined that the fearsome dust cons!@#$%^&*uted neglect and presented a threat to his health.

 

To his credit, the CSR handled a ridiculous situation fairly well.

there is even a phone call recording that a CSR explains that it is covered under warranty

thats awesome, dust voids warranty, i cant wait til i get out of this staging area and get back to my unit and tell everyone that bought a ps3 about that, we have somewhere around 6 or 7 ps3's in my battery alone, and the px there ( in ramadi ) just keeps ordering more and selling them like crazy, im glad im to cheep to buy one HA!

Let me see if I can provide a neutral response to maybe enlighten some clueless people here.

 

Once upon a time I worked as a best buy service technician (prior to their purchase of Geek Squad). Every day we'd get some device that looked like the owner kept it in an old vacuum cleaner bag -- and they sucked balls to work on. Given that they accounted for such a low percentage of the total units taken in, the company wouldn't pay for dust masks or anything like that. Instead, it was like playing "unlucky lottery" when one of these things came in. And, again, it sucked to get stuck with one. Eventually, our boss got sick of dealing with them, so we started turning them away. If a machine was excessively dusty, we told the customer to either (a) take it home and clean it or ( pay a fee for us to clean it. Most people opted to take it home and blow it out with an air compressor. Problem solved.

 

While I agree that it shouldn't void the warranty, I can certainly see where the service !@#$%^&* is coming from. I would have handled the situation differently, myself; but I do understand.

well... i know that at some stores like best buy and future shop, you can get some warranty thing... it's cheap and if it does break down they replace it for you.
