I put all the required files in the DCME folder
Does that include Comdlg32.ocx?

If so, you will need to log on as an administrator or the component cannot register correctly.

So does that mean i need to download DCME on the administrator's file?

On which user you "download" it from doesn't change anything. You might have to try it on an administrator account though. However, you can try it first without being admin. It is possible that all the required files will already be there. Unless you are getting error messages, just try to use it normally.

Start -> run

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx

Okay well i did what you said, and i click open but then this comes up: regsvr32 is not a valid Win32 application.

... that's not normal... lol...

go check in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder, there should be a file named regsvr32.exe

if not... your Windows is just screwed up. A quick google told me that that file is included with Internet Explorer 3.0+ ... so... you should have it

Could always try this...

Unzip this in c:\windows\system32 ... and try again

Not sure if it will work :/, but it's worth a try. I've never seen someone missing that file, honnestly... Could it have been infected by some virus and cleaned out by an antivirus?

A fresh reinstallation of Windows would solve the problem, no need for a new computer, really.

Didn't work still, oh well thanks anyways..

And how do i reinstall Windows?

If you have a CD, you have 2 choices:

1: Put the cd in, boot from the cd, reformat everything, reinstall from scratch.

You might want to backup your stuff before doing that though, cause that will wipe everything.

2: Put the cd in, the autorun will ask you if you what you want to do, ask it to reinstall it, and it will reinstall it. However, it won't reformat everything, so it won't be a super clean install...

If you don't have a CD, you can find/copy one from someone else... Copying the cd is perfectly legal, since you (I suppose) have a legal activation key already. Make sure you know the activation key of your installation, though. If it came with your computer, there should be a sticker somewhere on your computer case with the activation key.

Also, make sure the CD you have is for the same version as your activation key. A key for XP Home edition will not work for an installation of XP Professionnal.

But as I said, reinstalling windows will wipe out everything you have... If you had your computer for a relatively long time, and never reformatted, it's probably a good idea. Your computer will once again run as fast as when you first used it. Don't reformat just to be able to use DCME lol blum.gif But it's usually good to make a full cleanup every few years.

To backup your files, just burn them on cd's/dvd's. Note that it is completly useless to backup programs. You will need to reinstall programs, cause just copying them back would not work.

Anyway... If you never done that, I suggest you do this with someone who knows how to do it. Not because it,s complicated... but just to make sure you don't end up not being able to use your computer at all blum.gif

And if you have enough hard drive space, you could create a second par!@#$%^&*ion (the Windows installation allows you to do that easily). You would put all your data files on that par!@#$%^&*ion (movies, music, stuff), and the next time you need to reformat, you wouldn't have to touch that par!@#$%^&*ion. You could even just make a backup of your files on it. You'd only need to wipe the Windows par!@#$%^&*ion to reinstall it.

You can find a lot of guides on Google to do all the things I talked about...

i have comdlg32.ocx and i put it into my system32 folder. but the button you click is just 2 gears, one is green and one is orange, so i did that thing where you go to run and i copied that stuff in the link and put it into run but it says this "failed- the specific modual cannot be found. what do i do... im confused.

First, try just to start DCME after placing it in the system32 folder

If you still get the comdlg32.ocx error:

Click on 'Start' , then 'Run...', then type in:

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx

If it says the module can't be found, MAKE SURE you placed it in the correct folder. You better double-check because by default Windows might give you warnings about changing stuff in a system folder.

Not sure what you meant with that part... you seem to be describing the icon of the .ocx file... You don't really need to click it anyway, just move it in the right folder (C:\Windows\System32) or whatever folder is windows installed in
