Samapico Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I put all the required files in the DCME folder Does that include Comdlg32.ocx? If so, you will need to log on as an administrator or the component cannot register correctly.

A Band-Aid Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I put all the required files in the DCME folder Does that include Comdlg32.ocx? If so, you will need to log on as an administrator or the component cannot register correctly. So does that mean i need to download DCME on the administrator's file?
Samapico Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 On which user you "download" it from doesn't change anything. You might have to try it on an administrator account though. However, you can try it first without being admin. It is possible that all the required files will already be there. Unless you are getting error messages, just try to use it normally.

Okay well i tried to d/l it on my Admin. file but it still didn't work. When i try and open it, it says "Component 'comdlg32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" I don't know what to do now.. please help
Drake7707 Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 copy it to system32 folder, Start -> run regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx
A Band-Aid Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Uhmm, i don't understand.. Can you give me like the whole instructions to download everything properly.. maybe i missed something.
Samapico Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Click the link I gave you in the last post, download the missing file (comdlg32.ocx) and read the instructions in that topic about where to place that file and what to do with it. Edit: reformated and changed a bit the content of that Required Files topic
A Band-Aid Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 copy it to system32 folder, Start -> run regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx Okay well i did what you said, and i click open but then this comes up: regsvr32 is not a valid Win32 application.
A Band-Aid Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Yes, i know i did that but it still says: regsvr32 is not a valid Win32 application.
Drake7707 Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 try using the installer posted in http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=19640
Samapico Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 ... that's not normal... lol... go check in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder, there should be a file named regsvr32.exe if not... your Windows is just screwed up. A quick google told me that that file is included with Internet Explorer 3.0+ ... so... you should have it

A quick google told me that that file is included with Internet Explorer 3.0+ ... so... you should have it !@#$%^&*... i'm screwed aren't i? So there's nothing more i can do? Until i get a new comp?
Samapico Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Could always try this... Unzip this in c:\windows\system32 ... and try again Not sure if it will work :/, but it's worth a try. I've never seen someone missing that file, honnestly... Could it have been infected by some virus and cleaned out by an antivirus? A fresh reinstallation of Windows would solve the problem, no need for a new computer, really.regsvr32.zip

Samapico Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 If you have a CD, you have 2 choices: 1: Put the cd in, boot from the cd, reformat everything, reinstall from scratch.You might want to backup your stuff before doing that though, cause that will wipe everything. 2: Put the cd in, the autorun will ask you if you what you want to do, ask it to reinstall it, and it will reinstall it. However, it won't reformat everything, so it won't be a super clean install... If you don't have a CD, you can find/copy one from someone else... Copying the cd is perfectly legal, since you (I suppose) have a legal activation key already. Make sure you know the activation key of your installation, though. If it came with your computer, there should be a sticker somewhere on your computer case with the activation key.Also, make sure the CD you have is for the same version as your activation key. A key for XP Home edition will not work for an installation of XP Professionnal. But as I said, reinstalling windows will wipe out everything you have... If you had your computer for a relatively long time, and never reformatted, it's probably a good idea. Your computer will once again run as fast as when you first used it. Don't reformat just to be able to use DCME lol But it's usually good to make a full cleanup every few years. To backup your files, just burn them on cd's/dvd's. Note that it is completly useless to backup programs. You will need to reinstall programs, cause just copying them back would not work. Anyway... If you never done that, I suggest you do this with someone who knows how to do it. Not because it,s complicated... but just to make sure you don't end up not being able to use your computer at all And if you have enough hard drive space, you could create a second par!@#$%^&*ion (the Windows installation allows you to do that easily). You would put all your data files on that par!@#$%^&*ion (movies, music, stuff), and the next time you need to reformat, you wouldn't have to touch that par!@#$%^&*ion. You could even just make a backup of your files on it. You'd only need to wipe the Windows par!@#$%^&*ion to reinstall it. You can find a lot of guides on Google to do all the things I talked about...
Drake7707 Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 start -> run -> "sfc /scannow" will scan for missing windows files, you need your windows cd to restore them though
A Band-Aid Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Okay thanks alot .. now if i find that cd somewhere ...
nolan123 Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 i have comdlg32.ocx and i put it into my system32 folder. but the button you click is just 2 gears, one is green and one is orange, so i did that thing where you go to run and i copied that stuff in the link and put it into run but it says this "failed- the specific modual cannot be found. what do i do... im confused.
Samapico Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 First, try just to start DCME after placing it in the system32 folder If you still get the comdlg32.ocx error: Click on 'Start' , then 'Run...', then type in: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx If it says the module can't be found, MAKE SURE you placed it in the correct folder. You better double-check because by default Windows might give you warnings about changing stuff in a system folder. but the button you click is just 2 gears, one is green and one is orangeNot sure what you meant with that part... you seem to be describing the icon of the .ocx file... You don't really need to click it anyway, just move it in the right folder (C:\Windows\System32) or whatever folder is windows installed in
