Because you cannot suicide ppl with the jump engine explosion Or mine the exit of jump, jump engines are very difficult to use IMO. *perhaps...*

 

1)make jump engines open instantly, so that people can use it to escape if they have full nrg (instead of being killed upon opening the jump portal).

or

2)don't make jump engines take away ALL energy, make it just 1/2 energy so you can escape thru portal w/o being killed by inc shots.

I don't think that's possible with Continuum. There's a energy depletion green and a full charge green... there's no half-energy green. The only way would be to reduce your max energy... or have something shoot at you until you reach half energy.

Besides, I still find Jump Engines to be a very useful system. I often use my Weasel to open a jump point for myself and my team-mates to allow us to byp!@#$%^&* a mined jumpgate in a sector. This capability to use your FTL Engine to help your team is something that is absent with ID Drives or TW.

"only 50k"? for some people, that's a reasonable amount of money. :huh: ;)

 

and now that the portals are back to normal (you dont automatically go to center of jump gate exit), portal mining is less of a problem. in addition, the sell price of 25k is kinda low, like if you want to just get it for a little while or don't find it useful enough.

ok, then perhaps just remove energy deplete. often times you would want to escape an enemy, and if you have low energy, the failure will kill you; if you have high energy, you should be able to escape without the low energy killing your defences against incoming enemies. Also, the enemy can merely follow you in; you should have some energy to escape while they are getting their bearings.

Frankly $50k isn't a lot of money for a 'permanent' system (that isn't one-use like cobalt warhead :o ). And jump is really cheap compared with other FTL engines (it's a third the price of ID and a twentieth the price of TW P!@#$%^&*).

Oh? I didn't know that. In any case, I bought my Weasel's jump engines while portal mining was still a problem.
