BlueWyvern Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 Participants: Aquarius, BlueWyvern, got bounty? Experiment #1:Warbird and Javelin Warbird (Armed with HE Missile) shoots from a stationary position at a Javelin in a stationary position.Warbird inflicts ~700 damage three times under the same conditions. Experiment #2:Warbird and Javelin Warbird (Armed with HE Missile) shoots from a moving position at a Javelin in a stationary position.Warbird inflicts ~700 damage two times at different speeds. Result: Non-shrap bomb damage will do ~700 damage. The relative speed of a bomb to its target will not increase its damage yield. Experiment #3:Javelin and JavelinJavelin (Armed with blue-shrapnel Falcon Missile) shoots from a stationary position at a Javelin in a stationary position.Javelin inflicts ~950 damage three times under the same conditions. Experiment #4:Javelin and JavelinJavelin (Armed with blue-shrapnel Falcon Missile) shoots from a moving position at a Javelin in a stationary position.Javelin inflicts ~950 damage four times at different speeds. Result: Blue-Shrapnel damage will do ~950 damage. The relative speed of a bomb to its target will not increase its damage yield. Experiment #5:Javelin and LancasterLancaster (Armed with yellow-shrapnel Falcon Missile) shoots from a stationary position at a Javelin in a stationary position.Lancaster inflicts ~730 damage three times under the same conditions. Experiment #4:Javelin and LancasterLancaster (Armed with yellow-shrapnel Falcon Missile) shoots from a moving position at a Javelin in a stationary position.Lancaster inflicts ~740 damage two times at the same speed (approximately). Experiment #4:Javelin and LancasterLancaster (Armed with yellow-shrapnel Falcon Missile) shoots from a moving position at a Javelin in a stationary position at a 45 degree angle.Lancaster inflicts ~750 and ~850 damage at different speeds. Result: Yellow-Shrapnel damage will do variable damage damage depending on angle, this is expected with all shrapnel and the inactshrap present dependant on angle. The relative speed of a bomb to its target will not increase its damage yield. Final Result: Inactshrap will definitely cause a noticable increase to bomb damage. If the effects are variable I have yet to witness a shrapnel bomb that will NOT increase the yield of a bomb. Angle is a factor but speed appears not to be in how much sharpnel becomes inactshrap. »Ceiu Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 Good research, but you're overlooking a variable here. In HS, there is no random factor to the damage -- especially for shrapnel. Inactive shrapnel (shrapnel that is less than 150ms old) always does x damage, then always does y damage when it goes active. I don't have the exact figures off the top of my head, but I believe inactive shrap is 25 damage, and active is the same as a single bullet of the same level. The angle factor in your experiments was coincidental (most likely the shrap going from inactive -> active). Quote
Sharpflame Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 I think that shrapnel can be set to do % damage of a bullet, instead of always 100%. Quote
Shia' Tan Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Thats cool, but what exactly are you trying to tell us? Quote
Guest Syrith Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 The relative speed of a bomb to its target will not increase its damage yield. Through my own testing, I've found that a higher speed bomb WILL inflict more damage than a slow moving bomb due to the bomb getting closer to the center of the ship before exploding (I've used *watchdamage to get exact results). However, the damage is not necessarily sufficient in a zone that has ships with high recharge/health. The angle of the bomb also can affect the damage caused by it slightly. To sum that up... bomb damage is dependent on how close the bomb gets to the center of a ship before exploding (due to splash - every level bomb does exactly the same damage IF they hit at the center of the ship... which usually would never happen).
