Hakaku Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Google search gave me this link to a user using WoW. He basically lists the same symptoms as you, but I don't think he ever found a solution. You might want to check it out for suggestions though. What you failed to mention is, are you running Vista x32 or x64*?Does the problem occur in both full screen and windowed mode?Have you tried running in safemode to see if the problem still occurs?Have you tried running it under compatibility mode (for XP)?Have you tried "disable desktop composition" (right click, properties, compatibility)? *I strongly believe this is a problem with the Nvidia driver on the Vista x64 system. In which case, I would recommend that you get a new driver, contact their tech support, or that you put up with the lag.

Hakaku Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I'm not asking you to constantly boot your computer in safe mode I was rather asking does Continuum load faster in safe mode? And you should probably try "disable desktop composition" (this disables Vista specifics). Also, are you running 0.40? And is Continuum set to the same resolution and color bit as your desktop? Else, I'm pretty sure it must be a driver issue, since I also run Windows Vista x32, but everything runs perfectly normal (I have ATI, not Nvidia).

Shock Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Try a lower resolution? It's most likely a graphics card issue. You could also try creating a new user on your system and try running Continuum on it.. That way it's less clogged with other programs you have running.

rootbear75 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Report Posted November 14, 2007 Get XP.i have it, but i dont want to remove the maintenance packages that i have already installed on here...if i do install XP, i lose all of the software found in that img above... i dont have any CDs for those programs (only have MS Office)otherwise i would....also, Lenovo has great stuff already preinstalled on here, such as the back-up utilities, the Wireless connection manager (windows one sucks...) among other things.... and the security suite
rootbear75 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Report Posted November 14, 2007 did you try windowed mode?did you read ANY of the posts?

If it doesn't you know its something else you have running in the background of your main account.. If it still does it then theres a bigger issue then the programs running.

Guest Shadow Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 I've been having the exact same issue for a while now. Vista 32bit, no firewall / virus scanners. Turned off data execution prevention and it did not help. Windowed mode / full screen does not matter. Reinstalling continuum from scratch made no difference. All vista themes are disabled + UAC is turned off. Also if i go into a zone with a large number of objects such as twcity (trench wars) the game becomes practically unplayable. It's not an issue with spyware / background apps or anything of the sort... I'm a sysadmin / senior developer, my machine is clean and I know what I'm talking about
Hakaku Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 I would still like to know if Continuum runs and loads faster in safe mode. (this can help narrow it down to 2 possible causes) And Shadows, what's your graphics card, is it also Nvidia?

Hakaku Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 When your computer is booting, press F8, which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu". Select SafeMode with Networking. If the problem occurs, it pins it down to this:Internet Connection (which you said happened both online, offline, and on a different network so it doesn't apply)Other apps and processes running in the background.Bad graphics card (e.g. Nvidia)Safe mode will disable a lot of processes and graphics used by your system, if it does indeed load faster, it could indicate one of the above. And yes, I'll mention again #3 because I also run Windows Vista x32, but with ATI and have never had a single problem:Spoiler! --Click here to view--Edit: Candygirl beat me to the F8

rootbear75 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Report Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) BTW: negative on the safe mode thing... didnt work at all made sure my firewall was in order too... (forgot to check that previously) i think i found the source of the problemhttp://www.cisco.com/go/cca and unfortunately, our school requires this program if i want to use the wired network... soo i guess im stuck if only there was some HTTP based chat client..... sigh(chatnut wont work... so dont ask...
