Guest Moose Master Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I agree with the no-swearing policy despite being fined for saying a certain little word once But a lot of people resort to "omfg u r gay" and other 'gay' comments as well as racist words I won't even repeat. My question is, what's being done about those? Is it that you're allowed to be racist & homophobic as much as you want as long as you don't swear? I doubt it, but that's how it seems at the moment. I brought this up with a mod the other day and was pretty much told to shut up because they don't want to deal with it. Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 That's not homophobic, for your information. As long as you keep a civil tongue, we can't enforce what you believe about your fellow man. Quote
Guest Moose Master Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 It is offensive as it's used in a derogatory way... People don't say "that's so hetero" when they've just been killed by a lame gate minefield. But if the zone doesn't want to acknowledge it then that's staff privilege, I just thought it was worth mentioning if the zone is actually trying to have a respectable community. Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 And calling something dumb is now an offense to someone that can't speak? Lame is an offense to someone that can't walk? Re!@#$%^&*ed is offensive to someone that can't think? Gay is offensive to someone that's happy? Oh Please... Quote

Re!@#$%^&*ed is offensive to someone that can't think? Gay is offensive to someone that's happy? Oh Please... cant help if the game's rating might be higher than you expected... but we can remove the ability to talk permanently and that way it can be E for everyone although those idiots probably didn't even bother to rate the game you can ask your mother to file a lawsuit to whoever Edited October 27, 2007 by Russky Quote

Re!@#$%^&*ed is offensive to someone that can't think? Gay is offensive to someone that's happy? wow touched a nerve. I didn't mean to upset you by pointing out this inconsistency. We both know that the way people are using the word is as an offensive term and not a happy comment. To be honest I don't really care but I did think it was worth mentioning. Spin it however you want if you want to avoid the issue - that's fine. Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Most people can't upset me. I thought that beating you over the head with other examples might get the point across more quickly, though. It seems contradictory that you're upset about gay but not lame. Quote
cavemanc Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 who cares if ppl swear or use racism, if you dont like it, you can ?ignore them. its that simple. pander to wimps and you'll only push away players with adult minds that don't like to be censored. Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Most of our players don't have adult minds, due to the fact that they aren't adults. Quote
cdrom Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 who cares if ppl swear or use racism most zones has a rule against racism, atleast the 1s i played Quote

Aceflyer Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I agree that it would be nice to have racist remarks banned - not that we have a lot of racism in HyperSpace, mind you, but it'd still be nice to just explicitly ban it altogether especially as HS has already gone so far as to ban cussing completely. Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I believe that the cussing rule covers 99% of racism, and I'm honestly torn about covering the remaining part. If someone wants to argue that not all men are created equal without resorting to swearing or immaturity, I'm not really sure we should make rules to stop them. Racism rules in other zones cover swearing in a very limited sense. I'm going to say we've already got it covered by our blanket ban on swearing. Quote
Shia' Tan Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 <------- Homophobic----------| Who wants to hang around gay people, seriosly? Next off, maybe not all adults swear or want to see/hear swear words. You ever think of that? People keep acting as if this is an age/maturity issue. Does swearing make you seem more mature? i dont think so. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that swearing makes you seem even LESS mature. What does a rule against swearing hurt? Does it make you angry that you cant rant and rave and throw obsenities at people? Non-swearing makes for a more pleasant overall atmosphere, and if you do happen to have vergine ears, well, all the better. Quote
cdrom Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) just keep swearing to yourself=best, why do you have to type it anyways?it takes more time than shouting it out Edited October 30, 2007 by cdrom Quote

ESCANDAL0SA Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 kids in hyperspace have already been exposed to swearing, racism, etc. in real life. what`s the point of banning it? Quote
Shia' Tan Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 kids in hyperspace have already been exposed to swearing, racism, etc. in real life. what`s the point of banning it?Right there is an example of completely missing the point. Quote
ESCANDAL0SA Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 ok, then explain the point of banning swearing. i really don't see it. Quote
Suicide_Run Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 kids in hyperspace have already been exposed to swearing, racism, etc. in real life. what`s the point of banning it?For some people, even if they have been exposed in real life. Doesnt mean they want to be exposed on net. Quote
ESCANDAL0SA Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 For some people, even if they have been exposed in real life. Doesnt mean they want to be exposed on net. well, i haven't met anyone who really has that problem. i mean, they should expect to be exposed to that on the net. Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Why should they expect it? There's no reason to expose children to it. There's plenty of reasons not to. Quote
ESCANDAL0SA Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 it's the internet... for example, are you saying that parents should NOT expect there to be predators online? parents do expect that. people should expect to be exposed to all kinds of things. kids aren't dumb. they come across hatred, racism, etc. on the internet everyday. why is swearing something new? stopping it from happening in HS isn't gonna stop it from happening elsewhere. Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Doesn't work that way. If we want kids to play in HS (and we do), then we need to make sure that when their parents walk by there won't be anything worrisome on the screen. That's why I started the rule, because when I started the zone *I* was a kid. I didn't want my SS privileges revoked because some people like to express their feelings more colorfully than others. Even after I got to a point where that's no longer an issue, there's no reason to remove the rule and make it harder for other kids to play HS. Quote
