PoLiX Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 For years health authorities have warned of the growing threat posed by drug-resistant bacteria, but most of us have been half-listening. Not anymore. A virulent strain of bacteria that resists many antibiotics appears to be killing more people annually than AIDS, emphysema or homicide, taking an estimated 19,000 lives in 2005, according to a study published last week in the Journal of the American Medical !@#$%^&*ociation. The recent death of a 17-year-old high school football payer in Virginia is a tragic reminder that methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, can prey on otherwise healthy people.http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/10/23/d...u-need-to-know/ Heard about this years ago, but never thought much of it... !@#$%^&*.
ThunderJam Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I like in Montgomery county Maryland (only 30 mins from parts of Virginia) and I recently got an email from the superintendent of public schools. Was a notice about this, apparenly a dozen montgomery county school kids have been infected, mostly student athletes, though one or two were even in elementary school. My brother's friend said he heard someone had a leg amputated, but I donno if that's true or if that even makes sense with what the disease is.
Smong Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 While trying not to feed the discussion, I suggest you don't look into medical stuff too much otherwise you might start thinking you have the symptons.
Maurauth Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 thats what you get for using antibacterial soaps in anywhere other than hospitals and food production factories
