J.eT. Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Ok, so, i got banned for like.. 3 days for Repeated cussing.. and i know the rules say "No form of cussing is allowed" but if that was the case, you should be banning everyone that says one of the following: Stfuwtfgtfoffslmao or others.. because we all know they involve cuss words. And that is a "Form" of cussing. So i really dont see why you contradict youselves at that statement of how NO FORM OF CUSSING IS ALLOWED, but yet abbreviation is a form. RiddleMeThis. Why not completely remove the rule, and make everyone happy? Everyone cusses anyways. So.. You would just end up saving yourself time from banning and degranting people. PS: This is probably in the wrong area, but i figured it was part of Zone Development.
Masaru Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 ... Why not completely remove the rule, and make everyone happy? ... Rule stays. I believe a place that discourages cursing will end up having a better community than one that lets the players curse freely.

nikegurl637 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I believe Doc began enforcing this rule because if a family member, friend, coworker, faculty etc. walk by and glance at your computer they won't find offensive content. Using abbreviations doesn't actually use the swear itself, thus a cursory glance will reveal nothing. Not only that, but the rule serves to keep certain people out. Certain immature people who can't shut their mouths and think before they type. I believe it makes HS a nicer environment for all. Nevertheless, even if everyone stops playing because of the rule (which won't happen), Doc will never change it.
Dr Brain Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Seems to me that you're just mad that you got banned. The rule stays, and no, it's not contradictory. Darn is a way to say !@#$%^&* without swearing. WTF is the same idea.

Darn is a way to say !@#$%^&* without swearing. WTF is the same idea. Oh, abbreviations like "WTF" and "GTFO" for example are allowed? I didn't know that!
Dr Brain Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 They're frowned upon, but we've never made a big deal out of them.
Aceflyer Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 They're frowned upon, but we've never made a big deal out of them. Gotcha. Out of curiosity, what about the way curses are printed in newspapers/magazines (e.g. f***)? Are those allowed too? (I just want to be clear about the rules so I don't accidentally violate them...)
Evil Doom Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 i dont think f*** is allowed, i remember people getting warned/fined in the past for doing that...
Aceflyer Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 i dont think f*** is allowed, i remember people getting warned/fined in the past for doing that... Kk. That does make sense.
J.eT. Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 (edited) Dr. Brain: Seems to me that you're just mad that you got banned. The rule stays, and no, it's not contradictory. Darn is a way to say !@#$%^&* without swearing. WTF is the same idea. Haha, if i was mad, i would quit the zone.. But, I was just wondering, because, Even the mods cuss, and they cant say they dont, because ive seen them. And no, keeping cussing out doesnt makeit a better playing environment. People still hate each other no matter what. I hardly ever cuss in real life, but on the internet you would think im a sailor. But w/e, its a stupid rule. But please, everyone go say i was whining.. when in all actuallity i was just asking a simple question. Edited October 23, 2007 by J.eT.
got bounty? Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Just don't get caught..and if you do, be prepared to take the punishment. :]
tcsoccer and neptune Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 (edited) Swearing is just an imature way of expressing yourself. If you can't think of a more mature way to say it then you should be playing some other zone (and maybe go back to elementary school to figure out some grammer). I agree with killa too... cdrom Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 (when no mods are online=u hear a cuss/swear ever few seconds/minutes)
Dr Brain Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Which is why we've started playing under alias. Still have access to all the staff commands, but don't show up on ?listmod.

There's really no reason to use swear words in HS, and I agree that the ban has made the HS zone feel 'nicer' overall than some of the other zones.

J.eT. Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 (when no mods are online=u hear a cuss/swear ever few seconds/minutes) Agreed! I mean, the rule is useless if its not effective.. If the rule was actually working, no one would ever cuss, even when mods arent there! PS: to the person who said to learn grammer, because cussing is immature, well.. how many adults in the world are as mature as maturity gets.. and still cuss!? Its an everyday occurance. kthx.
Dr Brain Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I mean, the rule is useless if its not effective.. By that argument, there should be no laws. If the rule was actually working, no one would ever cuss, even when mods arent there! Its an everyday occurance. kthx. By your logic, if speed limits worked, no one would speed, even when the cops aren't around. So lets remove all the speed limits and not care how many people die as a result. Gotcha.

Suicide_Run Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 It all depends on the mod(s) thats currently at the zone and not afk. Although i dont think the cussing rule applies to private freq chats.....or does it? Can you confirm brain? Just wanna know
Dr Brain Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 It doesn't apply to priv freq chats because of practicality: there's no easy way to moderate it. But swearing in one chat and not another is always a bad idea. Mistyping will get you fined/banned.
JDS Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 this is the reason i do not play hyperspace, even though i have control over what i say and can go without cursing.. the basic idea is freedom of speech . why would you play somewhere that will punish you for saying the wrong thing.. who do you think you are
Dr Brain Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Who do I think I am? I think I'm the proprietor of an establishment that has children as its primary patrons. You go into a private playground and start swearing. See how long before you get kicked out. Freedom of speech means that you can express any idea without fear of *government* retribution. It doesn't defend swearing or obscenity. It also says nothing about how private en!@#$%^&*ies can react. I'm well within my rights to ask you to leave for swearing in my house (or for expressing an idea, even). It's the same thing in the zone. You can claim freedom of speech and not leave, but you'll actually be booked for tresp!@#$%^&*ing.
J.eT. Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 (edited) So, please tell me is this acceptable.. around the middle of this picture is Sharpflame cussing.. and then Bluewyvern as well, no one fined or banned.. but i get 3 days.. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b151/ScreamoEmoIndie/screenshot8.jpg After 4 edits.. i got this to work!!!
