Dr Brain Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 (edited) Hi, I'm a fairly new DCME user, and I like what I see, but there are two major things stopping me from adopting it, and both relate to eLVL stuff. The first is that drawing regions is very !@#$%^&*bersome. Selecting a region, going into the region dialog, then choosing create region from selection is a pain. I don't see an easy way to modify the selection later on, either (I may have missed it). A better (IMO) approach would be to have the user able to create a region, and then have the region show up in the tileset dialog. One could then use all the existing paint tools with the region. Maybe a "region mode" would make it easier to coexist with tiles. My second "gripe" isn't really a gripe, but a feature request. Have a way to specify region settings that are user specified. So in addition to the no flags and base settings that are already supported, add a way for me to specify a new region chunk and to be able to add data to it. It doesn't have to be glamorous, but it should exist. EDIT: Smong had a post on the second part, but I don't think anyone else really understood what he was talking about. Samapico Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 The regions... just select the region tool, and DRAW ctrl+select removes tiles from region you can use a magic-wand-like tool to add/remove parts of regions too Custom region chunks... mmkay(custom chunks altogether would be possible as well)And no I don't remember that suggestion, maybe I didn't understand it as you said. I'm no ASSS user, so you know much more than me what would be useful for eLVL Custom chunks could hold like... either text or numeric values... for numeric values, you'd choose the number of values, and the format (length, signed/unsigned...) and you'd specify the name of the chunk you want...Does that sound right to you? Dr Brain Posted October 15, 2007 Author Report Posted October 15, 2007 I spent a few minutes with DCME and didn't see any other way to create regions. May want to think of making it more visible (since I don't think I'm an unusual user), but I guess if that works I can't complain too much. Yeah, that sounds about right, though you'd also want to be able to have combinations of numeric and text.Smong's post is here: http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=11053It's linked to from the todo list under elvl. Samapico Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 oh... thats an old post hehewe didnt even have eLVL at all back then I think sounds fun As for the visibiilty of the tool... well... it's a tool... can't make it much more visible than other tools :/LVZ tool is also over there...But what we could do is say something in the eLVL manager about that tool, and in the LVZ manager about the lvz tool and (soon) lvz tileset imo the tool is as visible as the edit -> eLVL... menu item Quote
