Rich People

Have you noticed that it's always the same small group of people that are flagging?

Have you also noticed that those people who flag happen to be the ones who are rich?

When you ask them to let you on the team, do they ignore you or say "stfu newb"?

It's not really any surprise that people who flag are the only people that are rich. In fact that's a good thing, so, I guess the only problem is that they never let anyone else flag. There are some !@#$%^&*ed good players in HS - just like any other server - but I can't help but wonder whether a lot of the 'good rich pros' are only so because they happen to be in the circle of friends who hog the flagging games and never let anyone else play.

Is this really good for HS if it wants to grow? I don't think there can be much growth in this type of environment. A lot of players are genuine and can be helpful but they'll never let you flag because you can't add much to the team and they already have a flagging clique.

I've just been flagging on a public freq, we lost to a private freq of rich people (of course) but it was still fun because we did manage to steal flags a few times. This just reinforces the idea that restricting flagging games to public freqs would help a LOT in the growth of HS.

If private frequencies were disabled during prime time there'd be a lot more possibilities for new players to grow and actually enjoy the game. Could this be tried for one week? There'll be a lot of complaints from vets but, for them, there'd be a lot more fresh meat to kill and they could then become legendary instead of just feared ;)

The problem with this, is that us "Rich People" are slowing down the circulation of money flowing within the "HS Economy."

!@#$%^&*, I'm all for everyone getting rich..but when that happens the game gets intensely boring. What happens when every player has every item? There is no further way for players to advance. HyperSpace has no flagging or dueling leagues therefore, once you hit the top..theres nowhere to go.

In a way, these "Aristo's" keep the game from having to reset every 2 weeks.

Of course, that's my perspective. It is probably biased.

pub can still win, just get overwhelming numbers, i was on a losing priv dozens of times when we were like 3-4 people vs 7-9, we didnt complain, then when we got a bit more people, all pub started complaining

You see them flagging all the time because they're playing all the time. That, more than anything else is why they're rich.

not necessarily, priv people just reach for the top with their strategy etc. and manages to win more jps than anyone else, when they play

This has been discussed before. Some people have their own flagging circle mainly cause they get frustrated with idiots when they flag on pub freqs. While your fighting your !@#$%^&* of in base, they go dying in center. Either that, or they start using emp and ending up emping half the team or laying mines at stupid places which gets repped and blows up half of your freq.

If you dont like all the "rich" people having their own circle. Go make your own and train them to beat the "rich" people.

The zone simply doesn't have enough population to support 2 pubs + a 7 player priv. HS typically peaks around 30 players, 10 of which are in spec. After removing the priv and solo griefing players, and dividing by two, pub freqs have 5-8 players, a few of which are newbies. By themselves they would be challenged to handle the priv freq, but they just flank each other.

There are two possible solutions that have been discussed ad naseum but neither has been implemented:

1. Two pub freqs all the time, no privs (maybe solo privs). The popularity of pub flagging events tends to support this, as does the fact that virtually every other flagging zone does it this way.

2. Remove freq size limits, allowing all of pub to gang up on the main priv freq. Presently, pub freq sizes are capped to (9 I think) so they can't achieve even mere parity with a priv freq when skill and items are taken into consideration. Let "the market" decide how many people should be on a freq, as each additional person reduces the jp winnings, but may increase the chance of victory.

I don't agree that the rich players are rich because they play all the time. Not everyone who plays all the time is rich. Those who have made $ do it by being in teams that are bountying in flag games due to the ineffectiveness of attacking freqs due to the above.

What happens when every player has every item?

Then it becomes solely a question of who has more skill because differences in wealth are negligible. Oh the horror, even footing.

Yes, part of the zone is building up your ships. What people seem to forget is that after you have built up your ships, there are still other people to kill and flag games to win.

Back in old (I mean OLD) hyperspace, the majority of the time was spent in the maxed phase and nobody complained about it being boring. Because it wasn't.

Change it back to old (you mean OLD) hyperspace!

But seriously, I liked the map and settings that were about 1.2 years ago...They were way more fun and I never complained.

Since when I started HyperSpace I knew nothing about continuum (I had to ask my brother how to change to different public teams) I didn't know how to buy x-radar or anything else. That was the most fun I've ever had in hyperspace. When I was a newb....Good times, Good times.

"rich" people are generally people that follow this at the very start of reset;gives them a head start

i give money away every week too

Get a high bounty, or team up with others who have high bounties. That is how you make money. I want the general public to know this deeply. The current situation of Hyperspace is 50% perfect, that missing half is players. We lack new blood, and like vampires for this money, we like fresh blood.

I try not to give NEW noobies a hard time though, I tend to give them 10k, along with some advice. My advice is usually along the lines of:

1: Get a high bounty. The majority of you funds will come from this.

2: Team with others, you can and will get on a private team if you are mature.

3: Win jackpots, this is not much money compared to your bounty/kill winnings, but

4: Every dollar counts.

5: Run up in the base like this frantics.gif

I enjoy pub night a lot, there are quite a few new players that come in for the excitement and stay for hours, but only about 1/3 of them return on a regular night. The jackpot gets huge, theres battles in more than one base at one time, that is awesome! But, the drawback is noobs stepping on veterans toes. Personally I have no problem with this, as long as there is a private arena where two squads can challenge one another to a private flagging match.

So I say, for the sake of new blood, at least for a few months, make it permanent pub day while working on that private squad match module.

You can't and won't get on a private team no matter what you do. I've been trying for days and I'm a lot more sociable than some others - and more useful.

It's ok to tell a newbie to go win jackpots but they can not get on private freqs to do so. This is the problem. The concept needs tweaking slightly to give newbies a smaller part of HS to concentrate on so they can get their money and EXP up. This will encourage new people to the zone to stick around and build up their ships so that they can then flag successfully. More people = higher jackpot which is better anyway.

You dont have to "get on" a previously made private freq. Just form one yourself, when ever I spec in HS. I get random gay pms from random players to join their private freqs.

The hard part is joining private freqs that already made. You just need to become good in the eyes of those players whom are in that freq. Being sociable doesnt cut it in HS for new players, you can talk all you want but if ur a newb and suck. You still wouldnt get in.

cdrom/suicide run:

Your advice is totally correct. The problem is that people will not put in that amount of time to a game like Continuum and this is why there is such a low average population. New players will quickly get tired of trying to "look good" to other players when they treat them badly. To get a higher population the environment needs to change to allow new players to participate in flagging OR something else that is fun. It might even be good to have a newbie arena where only ships under X total value can play.

suicide run:

I've been playing in HS for a few days now so wouldn't call myself totally new but I will still fight the newbie corner as it is the only way to make the zone grow (which I'd like to see happen). I place a lot of value on people being friendly but maybe that's just me being crazy, however, I'm not useless in game. I do attack the bases and cause a lot of damage. I don't get the flags on my own but I can usually kill the first one, two or three defenders and for a relatively new warbird I don't think that's bad.

Try starting up your own private team, and inviting players right away. If you are the owner of the team, it'll be easier to flag with people.

I will give that a try, problem is getting a lanc on the team. But this isn't about me specifically, the thread was about new players coming to HS and how they get excluded from everything but getting killed in the centre which causes them to get annoyed and then leave. Edited by Moose Master
