Raeth Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Hey, I just upgraded my computer and now Continuum won't work. It installed just fine, but when I launch it, nothing happens. At all. No process, no thread, no window, no error, no report. Nothing's blocked. I've added it to SpyDoctor and Norton's Allow lists and I've set it to run compatibility mode and to be run as Administrator. I've also disabled UAC. Any thoughts?
★ Maverick Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Tried disabling SpyDoctor and Norton alltogether?I think I remember SpyDoctor being a cause for such a problem in a previous topic. Hakaku Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Someone previously noted that Norton = bad news. I wouldn't know about Spydoctor though, you can also try disabling it.(actually, it's written all over this stickied faq, and a simple search tells me that Norton has caused problems since Continuum's existance) But since it would look bad if both me and Mav just said that per-say, I've referenced it:Problem solved. I just removed everything related to norton crap(Using Continuum 0.40) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/zacinu/SubSpacebannt2.pngPSPACE (SourceForge) - Alternative client (source) to Continuum

★ Maverick Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 That's a really bad advice, Sigition, and it probably won't work at all. It's known that limited accounts can make Continuum not work at all. Check out your zone population statistics at stats.sshq.net! Raeth Posted October 20, 2007 Author Report Posted October 20, 2007 Norton sucks. Try AVG instead? 'Norton Sucks blah blah. We hate paying money for software. We have no RAM!' I have 3gb of ram and got it for free. It's also the only program I've used in 6 years that's kept every virus clean from my PC. Reliably. Including AVG and Avast. Also, I had Norton before Vista and never experienced a single software compatibility issue. Any program which screws with my anti-virus is neither programmed properly, nor safe. And just to be certain, I disabled Norton temporarily and tried running it. Same thing happened.

Incomplete Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 It also stops some people playing Continuum :x -Lucozade kentbrockm> what is team tournament?pernille> like 2v2 kentkentbrockm> ahkentbrockm> wanna be my partner, pern?pernille> lolpernille> i suckkentbrockm> good habbit for a gal your age.Autofire> lolExplody Th> Omg kent------------------------------------------------------Incomplete> ?find MikeTheNoseMikeTheNose is in SSCC Metal Gear CTF------------------------------------------------------MikeTheNose> ?find IncompleteNot online, last seen more than 10 days ago My Profile
Raeth Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 It also stops some people playing Continuum :x I've tried disabling Norton, and not only did it then NOT run, but the program sat in the background infinitely re-opening itself, bogging down my computer (which is fairly tough atm) until I had to turn it off to get rid of it. The process wouldn't even close. At least Norton prevented the program from doing this. (Oh, and btw, no antivirus program will stop 100% of viruses. Even if you combined all the top programs, you still have a chance of infection.)
Incomplete Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 That sounds like a problem I had once. You dont have any Microsoft Xbox peripherals plugged in or installed on your PC do you? Hakaku Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Start > Computer > System Properties (button under the link bar) > Advanced System Settings (on the left navigation menu) > Performance (click settings)Now move over to the one that says "Data Execution Program", and add Continuum to the list. DEP will block Continuum from running if you didn't install it properly, moved it from its original install, or didn't install it in a proper location (program files). And yes, DEP is also found on Windows Vista. Try running your game afterwards. Hope this helps. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/zacinu/SubSpacebannt2.pngPSPACE (SourceForge) - Alternative client (source) to Continuum

Now my only problem is that none of the ship images or zone names/pings show up on the menu. O_o I can still click them and enter zone however, but then as soon as it tries to load, it says it cannot load tallfont.bm2 >.< So close! It even loaded the zone's news file. Oh! Haha, whoops. XP I copied the old Continuum file onto my new computer, and the installation just created a Continuum2 folder. XD rofl Merged the files and it's working fine now! And it looks like all my settings transferred over, too! Thanks so much! It's good to see someone that, rather than just bashing some program because they're idiots, actually tried to help! I appreciate it tons. ^_^ All these crazy new Vista features I gotta learn how to twiddle with. Edited November 2, 2007 by Raeth
