candygirl Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 well duh... the shortcut doesnt know where the game is anymore... right click on the shortcut, go to propertiesin the Target: box, put the path of the continuum in thereand in the Start In: box, but the continuum folder path in there I know this....and what the !@#$%^&* was the "duh" for If you were to read what i typed you would have seen this->Heres how i got it to hang.
Samapico Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 But moving the .exe doesn't get it to hang... it just gets it to not start at all.The problem these people have is that the process (continuum.exe) is started, then killed by something else, then restarted, etc... so it has nothing to do with what you described
MikeTheNose Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 You guys surprise me. Please use an anti-spyware program such as Spybot S&D.
Samapico Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Actually, anti-spyware programs are known to CAUSE that issue... Though in some cases, it may be spyware causing it
MikeTheNose Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 First time I have ever heard of that and I was doing tech support for the game from before you were playing
PoLiX Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Actually mike, if you look through this forum, since .39pr1, it was a normal cause of issue.
stisev Posted December 3, 2007 Author Report Posted December 3, 2007 Hi guys, So I've basically confirmed that an app that I'm installing on my comp is conflicting with Continuum or vice versa. Please realize that I run a VERY clean "ship" (e.g. I run mostly open source, portable, no driver-crap software). 90-95% of my software is portable. I'm going to create a backup image of my laptop with TrueImage, reinstall XP, and then go through installing EACH program one by one, restart, then run continuum to see where the problem lies. I'll keep you guys updated!
Shock Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 Haha, sweet. I thought about doing that, but I was too lazy. Just make sure you don't forget to tell us which program it was, if you ever find out.
stisev Posted December 4, 2007 Author Report Posted December 4, 2007 Haha, sweet. I thought about doing that, but I was too lazy. Just make sure you don't forget to tell us which program it was, if you ever find out. I still can't find the culprit. I'm thinking it may be a reg entry. If I run Continuum sandboxed (via Sandboxie) it works fine!
Shock Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 I dunno.. I checked through the registry once, even though I don't really know much about it.
Samapico Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Usually, anti-virus or anti-spyware programs are the source of a problem like this But we never were able to establish a direct relation between particular programs or whatever... Usually works, but doesn't work for some people sometimes.
Shock Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 I installed Warcraft 3 once and it wouldn't work.
Guest Guest Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I am having this same problem as described by stisev...unfortunately, I do not know anything about computers, as stisev seems to...anyway, ive tried the easy stuff (DEP, compatibility, firewalls) but i have not ventured into the realm of getting anti-virus software and the like because i havent experienced any other problems with my laptop. anyway, I guess I was just posting to let people know that this problem has happened to more than one person, and if anyone feels like giving me some advice (that I may or may not follow) feel free...although im fairly content just playing it in safe mode with networking when I want to play.
Guest IceStorm23 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I am having the same problem but when I shut down, it gives me a continuum.exe dll initialiazation failed msg. Any way to solve this issue??
Shock Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 This is your problem: http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=13180 and the message you get when shutting down is supposed to happen.
