stisev Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 !@#$%^&*le almost says it all. I've tried every single version of Continuum/subspace available (38, 39pr1, 0.40) but every time continuum uses 100% of cpu, then closes, then 2 other continuum processes open, they close within less than a second. I can't kill the process since it closes & opens too quickly. All I can do is a loggoff then on again or restart. This happens on BOTH of my computer, even if I kill all non-essential processes. Help!
»Maverick Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Try this: Fix to this issue: Windows XP Data Execution ProtectionOpen up DEP and see if you have 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only', if so, check 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select'. Next add Continuum.exe to the list, and apply. Than you can go back to 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only' if you'd like, and it will load fine.(You can find the DEP properties at the Data Execution Prevention tab in System Properties.) If this doesn't solve the problem, post every anti-virus / firewall / anti-spam / protection program you have running on your pc.
stisev Posted October 1, 2007 Author Report Posted October 1, 2007 Hi Maverick, I should've mentioned that. The first thing I did was turn on DEP, but it didn't help. Still crashes like before.
Endrance Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 I get that same !@#$%^&*.... but mine doesnt do anything. i just click it and thats it nothing... i tried on da labtop 2 but nuttin idk... i did all the dep !@#$%^&* too
»Maverick Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 You actually need to disable DEP for Continuum What anti-virus / firewall / anti-spam / protection programs are you running?
stisev Posted October 1, 2007 Author Report Posted October 1, 2007 Sorry, I misspoke. I put continuum as an exception to DEP so it should work. I'm using NOD32. I also tried it with kaspersky 6.0 but same thing. I've turned off all AVs before and it still happens.
rootbear75 Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 (edited) try completely turning off DEP, if possible i dont use XP so i dont know if you can Edited October 2, 2007 by rootbear75
Hakaku Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Yes, it's possible to completely turn it off. (I mentioned it in another thread, but I'm too lazy to find it)Usually, if DEP is configured properly, an error message should appear if you try to run Continuum and it disallows it. Here's what I recommend:1. Delete ALL Continuum related files.2. Run an anti-virus scan, and run a registry cleaner (e.g. Eusing's registry cleaner)3. Reboot Computer4. Log onto an account with aministrator rights5. Install Continuum from here, into C:\Program Files\6. Make sure all anti-viruses or firewalls have been disabled (yes, including Windows' built-in firewall)7. Now start Continuum, and post your results back onto this forum. From your posts, I take it that you're running Windows XP SP2, and that most likely your installs were corrupted.
stisev Posted October 2, 2007 Author Report Posted October 2, 2007 Hakaku,I did all of that and the problem still occurs. !@#$%^&*, I even turned off DEP completely (using boot.ini hack) but it still crashes like always on two different computers.
rootbear75 Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 (edited) your computer might just be incompatible (however unlikely)... ever thought of that? Edit: Re-do above steps, but see what happens if you right click on the install file, and click Run As... administrator.. Edited October 2, 2007 by rootbear75
stisev Posted October 2, 2007 Author Report Posted October 2, 2007 your computer might just be incompatible (however unlikely)... ever thought of that? Edit: Re-do above steps, but see what happens if you right click on the install file, and click Run As... administrator.. It has run on both of my computers before. I have no idea what changed. I am running as admin, but i'll do what you suggested and post back.
rootbear75 Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 maybe running in compatibility mode might help too. let me know if you want to try this...
wub Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 do you have a built in firewall or antivirus for your isp? that would explain it not working on both of your computers.
Bak Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 why would a firewall stop continuum from working? that doesn't make any sense
wub Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 mine did... i have no idea why but it did. (this was like two years ago from some update yahoo did) works fine now.
stisev Posted October 4, 2007 Author Report Posted October 4, 2007 maybe running in compatibility mode might help too. let me know if you want to try this... Tried that too. Didn't work in 95/98/ME/2000 compat. mode. I have no software firewall (XP disabled) but I do have a hardware. I'll try DMZ'ing the comp and see what happens.
Hakaku Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 Run your computer in safe mode, and tell us if you can play Continuum.
candygirl Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 (edited) what is your CPU Usage before you start the game?Other then your oc what is running on your pc right now?Look at you memory to see if its in place (is it insertered right) Do you have enough memory?Have you bumped (banged) your PC/Laptop?Have you d/l any new screen savers? (There are some bad ones out there) If so use the one that comes with xp Why i ask this "i have d/l this game on diff PC and it works all the time. Edited October 15, 2007 by candygirl
stisev Posted October 15, 2007 Author Report Posted October 15, 2007 Safe mode with Networking It worked in safe mode with networking! I can't believe it. what is your CPU Usage before you start the game?Other then your oc what is running on your pc right now?Look at you memory to see if its in place (is it insertered right) Do you have enough memory?Have you bumped (banged) your PC/Laptop?Have you d/l any new screen savers? (There are some bad ones out there) If so use the one that comes with xp Why i ask this "i have d/l this game on diff PC and it works all the time. 1) CPU usage is hovering around 10% for other processes2) When I open the game, it doesn't even show the window. When I have time a little later, I'll take a video of it. The process just starts, quits, starts quits, starts quits, starts, etc. and takes 100% of cpu while it's doing that. Other then your oc what is running on your pc right now? OC? Overclock? My laptop is not overclocked. Here are the processes working RIGHT NOW. Please note that I closed all programs when I started Continuum, but it still happened: http://ep1nephrine911.info/cm.JPG Look at you memory to see if its in place (is it insertered right) Yes, it is. Also, please remember it happens on BOTH my comps - laptop and server. Do you have enough memory? Yes, 1.5GB in laptop, 1gb in server Have you bumped (banged) your PC/Laptop? No, never, either comp. Have you d/l any new screen savers? (There are some bad ones out there) If so use the one that comes with xp No, I don't use screen savers. I just turn my monitor off after 3 min. Believe it or not, I'm actually a minimalist when it comes to processes and stuff I'm thinking this is a driver issue somewhere. I don't think it's video card, since my server has the same problem. I use mostly portable apps, but here are the apps I INSTALLED: Altiris Software Virtualization AgentDaemon ToolsHamachiKAV Personal 6 (license expired, so I bought NOD32 instead)Office 2007Photocopier ProSandboxieTrueLaunchBarUnlockerWinternals Admin Pack

Samapico Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 It worked in safe mode with networking! I can't believe it.Try disabling some startup services and programs.. trial and error until you find what's causing it to hang like that
candygirl Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 (edited) Heres how i got it to hang. I left the game shortcut the way it was on my Desktop. Then i moved the game folder to a diff place on my PC (with out changing the shortcut or adding another) And when i clicked the the game icon it did nothing.
